Mountain High is the staple of convenience as far as getting to the resort from nearby cities.(L.A., San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley, San Bernadino, Victorville, and more.) It is roughly an hour and twenty minutes from Los Angeles in the morning with light traffic, travel times decreasing the closer to the 15 FWY you become. The resort itself has two sections, West Resort which contains the terrain park features as well as a few steeper runs accessed by an experts only chair lift. Followed by East Resort, which is catered towards tree runs and natural terrain features. East Resort also boasts Southern Californias longest ski run which most are extremely skeptical of given Mammoth Mountain is much larger and takes far more time top to bottom. An expert skier/snowboarder will go top to bottom at East Resort in 3-5 minutes maximum however the run is very enjoyable! The experts only lift at West Resort is also closer to an intermediate style lift in Mammoth, with maybe one genuine black diamond run on the Inferno Ridge side. I only categorize it a black diamond due to low snow coverage in certain areas requiring you to have more control to avoid small shark teeth rocks or branches. It is not a very steep run. West Resorts terrain park is set up fairly well with a few different options for rails, boxes, kicker jumps, wall ride, etcetera. The features vary for ability levels and stretch from the top of the mountain to the bottom. It is a good place for beginner park riders to learn their technique. West Resort is also where the bunny slopes and learning areas will be located, directly in front of the main lodge and outdoor bar/grill. Rentals are easy to access and are given at a better rate in the town of Wrightwood which is 5 minutes down the road from West Resort parking. Weekends here can be very crowded so if you can call in sick during the week thats going to be the best time to ride here. This is a very snowboard catered mountain. There are skiers but the vast majority of riders here will be snowboarders. I will say that the attitude of riders at Mountain High is much more respectable than those at Big Bear and Snow Summit. People will be more helpful towards beginners and the park rat attitude is low even with the vast majority of riders being in the terrain park here. Its a small mountain, but its good fun to get up there and ride for some weekday laps! BE ADVISED WEATHER CHANGES ARE FREQUENT HERE AND EFFECT LIFT OPERATIONS AND THE MOUNTAINS ABILITY TO OPEN. IT CAN GET VERY WINDY.
