Grindelwald - Wengen Review Summary
Grindelwald-Wengen attracts primarily intermediate and advanced skiers, with families and beginners also well represented. The most consistent themes are the exceptional scenery (Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau views), well-maintained pistes, efficient lift infrastructure including recent upgrades, and the car-free, traditional village atmosphere. Reviewers repeatedly mention quiet slopes with minimal queues, good variety of runs, and reliable train connections throughout the area. Common criticisms include high prices for food and lift passes, limited terrain for true beginners (blues can be challenging), occasional difficulty with area connectivity requiring multiple transfers, and relatively quiet nightlife with limited après-ski options. Snow conditions vary, with some visitors reporting icy pistes or reliance on snow cannons, particularly early or late season.

My favourite resort by far .Just magical. Inter sport good ski hire
Fantastic runs well maintained with snow canons running every night.
The most beautiful scenery for skiers and non Skiers Trains up to alot of fabulous restaurants and viewing point of the Eiger Monch and Jungfrau mountains and Glaciers.
We had a poor experience with the local ski school, who started the holiday canceling my kids first class, turning up late to the rescheduled class, putting them in entirely the wrong group and complaining at ME when I explained they could ski... thank heavens for the holiday company rep. The actual instructor eventually found was great though. This isn't our first rodeo with Swiss ski school and for kids, French ski school is better.
Wengen is so lovely - great for families to stay in, quiet and not over run with tourists or influencers. The hotels are a good mix, the bars and restaurants are nice. It's NOT for novice skiers, go to Grindelwald for that, which has some lovely, wide runs on Oberjoch. Or another resort entirely, but if you can ski reasonably well then it's a great resort, with miles of trail and stunningly beautiful too.
If you've been before you'll be sad to know that the wigwam at Kleine Scheidegg is no more. Boo.
Panoramic excellence. Well maintained runs and lifts. Easy access between ski areas. Amazing snow conditions. Town rather quiet. Lacking in apres ski options, food very expensive. Overall well worth a visit.
queues for the lifts and the views were incredible. Big big fan of Grindlewald. Also where i went from Beginner to Advanced skier. So thanks for providing a good resort to learn.
The Town is picturesque and only a short 40 min train ride up to the mountain where we had our family private Ski lesson at Kleine Scheidegg . The lesson we booked through was a company called Altitude. The instructor was fabulous with my children and super patient. We managed to grab some amazing cheesy chips and a round on drinks on the mountain after a day of snowboarding.
Sadly we were only there for 2 nights and frothing to get back to the mountain to continue our learning journey of snowboarding as a family . Any families looking to try snowboarding as a family or couple i would highly recommend Grindelwald - not only for its beauty but a great place for beginners to try out some winter sports. There is so much to offer in this town. We will definitely be back
I object to being asked Ron write 100 characters!
Transport links are excellent. Trains and buses from Interlaken arrive in the heart of the village, a short walk and you have the option of a cable car to First or mountain train to Kleine Scheidegg. These resorts rise either side of the village and both offer an excellent variety of ski runs with ski lifts and lovely restaurants that serve the obligatory hot chocolate or gluhwein, along with bratwurst and frites and cheese fondue, amongst other delicious foods.
The slopes are well groomed and well marked. A good variety of blue, red and black runs. However, it is worth mentioning there is often a abit of a crossover on these runs. A blue run can sometimes have a sudden steep bit that should probably be on a red run and equally a red run can be a really fun run, a delicious challenge, until that sneaky really steep bit sneaks in and you feel like this must be what a black run feels like. They are doable and at the end of the day, just take off your skis if you’re not comfortable and walk down!
There is nothing like breathing in the Swiss mountain air and gazing up at the mountain giants. This is my heaven on earth.
People are extremely kind and friendly and I believe the value for what you get is very well priced.
Only downside is lacks a few big pointers such as no ski park for tricks and jumps and also not the most well known place for an après, could definitely have a more vibrant nightlife!
Plenty for non-skiers as well. Food is amazing. Prices range from more affordable to very expensive.
