What Skiers Say About Grindelwald - Wengen

Grindelwald-Wengen attracts primarily intermediate and advanced skiers, with families and beginners also well represented. The most consistent themes are the exceptional scenery (Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau views), well-maintained pistes, efficient lift infrastructure including recent upgrades, and the car-free, traditional village atmosphere. Reviewers repeatedly mention quiet slopes with minimal queues, good variety of runs, and reliable train connections throughout the area. Common criticisms include high prices for food and lift passes, limited terrain for true beginners (blues can be challenging), occasional difficulty with area connectivity requiring multiple transfers, and relatively quiet nightlife with limited après-ski options. Snow conditions vary, with some visitors reporting icy pistes or reliance on snow cannons, particularly early or late season.

I was here from early december to mid february. 1st ever ski resort training with altitude under a R.A.T.S programme to become a level 2 qualified ski instructor. The beginner slopes didnt open until late december so i had to train on the red run, luckily i was up for the challenge. Many different slopes available and even connections to different parts of the resort such as Mannlichen. Was really good fun and such a sight to see. Mid january the skiing world cup is on so make sure to include this into your plans if you want to see the racers jump 30ft and race down the slopes. Theres also a chance to try this run yourself once the races are finished. Of course without the 30ft jump. Food options were quiet expensive on the mountains so i didnt go crazy but what i did try was quiet tasty the fries at the Hütte was a hit. Overall a good resort and big enough to keep you occupied and enjoying yourself as well as a whole load of Friendly faces.

It's high and icy. The pistes are some distance from the accommodation so it takes time to get anywhere. Not sure I would return.

Wengen is a village without cars and sits on a ledge about 1000m above the valley floor.
Nursery slopes are within the village.
Access to the rest of the area is by cable car or train.
For most of the season it is ski in ski out.
There are many bars a few night clubs and many good restaurants.

My favourite resort, not too busy, some years fantastic snow but usually lots on offer even in less than optimal conditions. Fantastic food and people, excellent ski school in multiple languages.

The most stunning resort you will ever visit. The views are incredible and the ski area is the perfect size to keep you entertained but not overwhelmed on your holiday. An intermediate paradise and still a bit of a hidden gem.

Wengen is a great, quiet resort for beginners and intermediates. The town is beautiful, car-free with plenty of restaurants but lacking in nightlife.

Beginners can easily start on the tow-lift in front of the Beausite Hotel, progress to the drag alongside and then there is plenty of beginner to intermediate options from the top. The top is accessible by the train or gondola.

The runs through the trees down to Grindelwald are great for building confidence and there are some more difficult options for advanced skiers. Overall, a recommended resort for beginners and intermediates and those seeking a more peaceful ski holiday.
