Although on a map the runs do not look extensive everything between them is some of the best off piste skiing I have done in the alps. Will be retuning next season for more POW!

Engelberg has been an off-piste mecca and hidden gem in Switzerland for many years, more recently discovered by the Scandinavians so for fresh tracks it is a good idea to hire a guide. For intermediate skiers there is limited terrain and better to go to other resorts. There are great learning areas for first steps on snow at Brunni and progressing at Gerschnialp. With the glacier the season is long and the slopes are mainly north facing so snow stays although this can get hard packed so make sure you have good edges and know how to handle the sometimes challenging reds and blacks. The resort is easy to access via train directly from Lucerne with the closest airport Zurich, there are frequent bus shuttles to the main lifts from the town. This has good apres ski in town and varied accommodation. Surprisingly this is very popular with visitors from India as a Bollywood movie was filmed here and if you are a lover of Indian food there is a good restaurant in town. For non skiers there is a sledge run, winter hiking and show shoeing and in summer mountain biking, golf course, rope park and hiking. Overall this resort suits best experts on snow and has a charm that will appeal to non skiers looking for a spectacular authentic mountain experience.

Engelberg is a great resort which offers a great selection of riding options. My favorite are the off-piste areas. It has extented freeriding zones which are called the Big Five: Galtiberg, Steingerg, Sulz, Laub, Steintäli. These are all easily accessible and offere great riding. from 3000mt down to the village. It offers also very good piste selection and the resort it is easily accessible by car and train. State of the art lift system and great views on the valley.

For the dedicated powder rider, nothing compares to Engelberg in the Centralsschweiz Alps. Unknown in the '90s, this place has blown up in the past few decades, and both the resort and town been transformed by Swedish ski-bum-cum-investors from a sleepy high-alpine backwater to a global freeride mecca. Because the Titlis massif attracts storms from every direction, snowfall is abundant and often very light, and with the big-mountain terrain this place is the virtual definition of steep and deepwith endless backcountry to boot. Almost all of the old lifts have been replaced in the past 10 years with high-speed modern equivalents. Plus they have what is widely acknowledged to be the world's best powder runthe magnificent Laub. Visitors will also like the town's many great eateries (Konrad, Villa Handcart, Alpenclub), accommodations (e.g., Ski Lodge Engelberg and the new 5-star Kempinksi) boutique shops (Secretion hess wines is the best in the Alps, and roasters has amazing coffee and books) and attractions like a 900-year-old benedictine Monastery.
