Way more interesting than it appears on a piste map. An excellent mix of open bowl skiing, steep descents from the glacier and wonderful, treeline skiing above the connected valley towns.
For 100KMs of piste, the lift pass is exceptional value and the resort itself is almost entirely ski-in, ski-out.
Long transfer from Milan but worth it!

Small resort but good for a long weekend. Some good beginner slopes near the town, difficulty progresses up the mountain. Not a lot of expert terrain. Some fun bars for apres but limited restaurants - not a very big town.

Will return to this resort for 3rd and 4th times this winter, High and snowsure its best for beginners and intermediates but good value on and off the slopes compared to France or Switzerland. Transfer times arent too bad. Plenty of on mountain restaurants and bars for those quick pit stops. 100km of pistes plus a glacier to ensure snow plus good snow making coverage

Went here on our minimoon and was great for a weeks skiing/boarding. Not the most exciting terrain or biggest area so wouldnt do more than a week here or necessarily rush to go back but did really enjoy it. Should be good for learners and beginners with a lot of wide gentle slopes available.

Great resort to learn in and improve. Quite high so reasonably snow sure, good snow making cover and there is a glacier so higher runs are usually well covered. Relatively easy to navigate.
Lots of good bars and restaurants in both Passo and Ponti. Good value at both lunchtime and in the evening. Great for families.

This ski resort provides a solid on and off-piste experience for those looking to explore beyond the groomed trails, and the ski school is staffed by friendly, competent instructors ideal for beginners and intermediates. The variety of runs and good facilities make it a reliable choice for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Overall, it's a great destination for a winter sports vacation.

If you are looking to ski rather than party; if you are looking for scenery rather than looking for "scenery"; if your are looking for late season snow rather than pastures green then Tonale may be for you. Yes it has its bars and as with other Italian resorts, these are lively at 4/5pm but quiet by 7pm- after that the drinkers head to the hotels to carry on. But as for the skiing- fast chairs clear the queues at the nursery slopes ( which are great for the youngsters and beginners) - but then there are some good cruise worthy reds on the south facing slopes, but more challenging slopes of all colours on the other side, where the glacier peaks at 3000m. Slopes are quiet even when the schools are in town. When the snow is really good, there are some great longer runs and you can get amongst the trees as well. Good intermediate and advanced skiers can find plenty to amuse themselves on and off piste. Generally Italy is cheaper than most places- and this applies to restaurants on the mountain and below. I've been twice and fully intend on heading back again.

I visited in April as the lead for my school's snowsports trip. We used the ski school whose office is next yo the trauma centre, they were excellent.
There was a lot of snow for the time of year, but with the warm conditions it was best to ski before lunch.
Tbh the slopes at pontedilegno had already closed for the season, but those that tried them last year really enjoyed the tree runs and the increase in difficulty compared to those up at the tonale pass.
There didn't seem to be a lot of are ski.
Apparently there is a music festival up on the glacier in February that is not well publicised.
We use this as a pretty good snowsure late season destination and I'd recommend it for family and school groups.

I was there a couple weeks after a snow day and tell the snow was just ice in one side of the valley. But the town is great and lost of variety of slopes.

I stayed in Passo Tonale at a great family run/ friendly hotel on the outskirts. Good bus connections. A trip up onto the glacier at 3000m is a must, it has good blacks, reds and an easy blue. A good value for money resort with a varied amount of skiing for all. If you buy the extended pass you can ski in a few nearby resorts (own transport/ taxi.)

This is a fantastic resort, frequented by the locals as well as groups from all over Europe (lots of accents).
Lots of options for ski schools and accommodation (ski bus will bring you up from the lower towns if you decide to stay out of Ponte di Legno)
Activities like snowmobiling also available up in Passo Tonale.
Friendly atmosphere all round. Family oriented in sections too (kids park with little snow bikes for them to sit on and slide as well as helping them go learn to ski).
Lots of different pistes to sink your teeth into as well as a Glacier. As well as a fun park and race park to see how fast you can go.
Lots of nice shops too, ski shops and clothing and souvenirs.
Got to try Bombardino - absolutely amazing drink that Id never heard of until we went there.
Definitely go back here.

A resort that is busy at weekends with locals and school children. Plenty of choice of slopes for beginners and intermediates. Extensive off piste but limited black runs for advanced riders. Plenty of uplift mainly chairs and gondolas. Resort at 1884m so high and reasonably snow sure. South facing slopes can become gloopy late morning early afternoon in warm weather like last week (16/3/24).

This is a brilliant resort, went as a medium size group of different levels and there was something for everyone. Its a a slight more beginner tailored resort and family friendly. The weather was brilliant and the snow was decent towards the middle of the day. Off peiste was fairly decent, there was beginner style off peiste sections with more advanced sections. Perfect for people who are starting out and/or familys looking for a ski resort

Great resort, learned to snowboard there by the brilliant teachers who helped me quickly get the hang of it. The courses were almost always nice surface. The restaurants were relatively well priced for a resort and food was pretty good. The village had a few small bars, a few shops and a club. Overall great place when we went in dec 2022
