What Skiers Say About Val Thorens

Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

Val Thorens is a brilliant ski resort with huge runs, lots of snow, and a lively atmosphere. We stayed at the Tango Hotel and loved it; the staff were friendly, the rooms cosy all with good food. Lots of places in the resort are ski in, ski out which is great. Everything felt easy and relaxed in the resort. The après scene is very lively and that’s part of the appeal, but it does come with a downside: it was very noisy late into the night, every night, which could be tiring. Still, we had a great trip overall, and are returning this year.

Great resort with plenty of runs, the three valleys pass opens up much more, but Val Thorens is big enough as it is. Great apres and food although drinks can be quite expensive.

Val Thorens is a great place to ski for all ski types. There are so many different runs for beginners, intermediate or advanced skiers. We skied for a whole week whilst we were at Val Thorens and never got bored or any of the runs.

Ski hier was easy to find although not the most efficient in my experience.

We were able to eat out on many different occasions at multiple different restaurants which served great food at very reasonable prices.

My friend and I also enjoyed an afternoon at Folie Douce and experienced great music and a great atmosphere.

I would highly recommend Val Thorens for all skiers (families/ friends).

This was the first time I’ve been however my friend and her family go every year and I can understand why!

An amazing resort, I would highly recommend!! The food options were amazing and cater to all budgets which was great. The slopes were always in great condition which made it so fun to ski even in the afternoon when the slopes are a bit more chopped up.

Really great place to ski, suitable for all levels! Particularly good if you also want connections to rest of 3 valleys, would say it’s the best of the three.

great resort, apres is a bit earlier than other resorts but lots of fun. snow was great but i think we got lucky as it was so early in the season. by the end of the week some of the slopes were choppy so lots were closed and some more shouldve been closed.

Brilliant place to ski, lots of runs. Well worth upgrading to the 3 valleys pass for more options. Apres ski is one of the best. Some lovely restaurants and bars, quite expensive. Worth a visit to the spa.

Amazing week with friends. Inside the town, there weren’t many apres ski options which was a bit disappointing as the ones on the mountain closed as it got dark - completely valid to close when dark though. Lots of bars in the town made up for the proper apres closing early

Great slopes and connections to the 3 peaks area for longer stays. Recommend getting down and out early from the accommodation to avoid the main slope and travellator area during the morning rush but otherwise plenty of activity and space at the same time!

I’ve been to VT five times and still haven’t done every run in VT/Orelle let alone in the 3 Valleys. The skiing is immense, with a very varied choice of run type. If you’re only going to be there a couple of days there’s no need to get the full 3 valleys lift pass, stick to just the VT one.
Apres is good with a couple of on piste choices.
Theres a varied choice of evening meal options from up market restaurants to well stocked supermarkets and everything in between.
There are multiple ski hire shops, which are all roughly the same price, so just choose the one closest to your accommodation.
It’s an amazing place to go skiing, if you’re a non skier you can find enough things to do for a couple of days but not much longer.
So, if you’re thinking of going, whether you’re young, old, a family, a group, going solo, just book it, you will love it.

I worked a ski season here and it was so much fun!!

I wasn’t very good on the mountain but the Apre was the best!

I gave them a low score on ski school because I did 3 days of ski lessons. And the instructor wasn’t very helpful when I wasn’t understanding how to stop on the mountain. She didn’t try and explain it in a different way to me. She just told me the same she’d said previously.

I need to go back and probably experience the ski hill now I can ski as it’s hugeeeee!

Great resort and moderately reasonable. Slopes were never too busy and with great variety if you can at least ski blues. Apres were very fun especially with folie douce just up the mountain.

Amazing resort. Great that you have access to the whole three valleys. Great apres and selection of restaurants and hotels. I didn’t experience too long queues while at VT and it was also great for all levels. I visited with beginners and advanced skiers and there was plenty for us all.

From my experience, Val Thorens is an excellent ski resort if you want reliable snow and plenty of terrain to explore. Being so high up, the snow conditions were consistently good, and the lift system made it easy to get around the Three Valleys without long waits. The ski-in/ski-out setup was really convenient, and the après-ski had a great atmosphere, especially in the afternoons. It’s definitely more modern than traditional, and it can feel busy at times, but overall I found it a great mix of quality skiing, convenience, and lively energy.
