What Skiers Say About Val Thorens

Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

Perfect runs with PERFECT weather and snow conditions.
A lot of the tougher runs were quiet which is lovely and great for practising. Lifts are efficient despite them not all being open the week we visited. Absolutely will be back!

The slopes were good and the snow was powdery most of the time but certain slopes were very very busy. The green slopes are good for beginners but there’s a huge jump in levels between green slopes and blue slopes. There are lots of wide slopes. In the morning, when the posted are groomed it can be very icy until around 10:30

Fantastic Apres! The resort easily accommodated huge amounts of university students. The altitude of the resort is reflected in the snow quality, good and dependable.

Great ski resort! It has plenty of run to do and because it is so high the snow is always fab. It is a pricier resort but nonetheless has plenty going on

Even though it was early in the season, the snow conditions were good so, many of the runs were open. I had the 3 valley pass so was able to enjoy the neighbouring valleys or resorts. The lifts were very efficient. The apres were very good. One concern is that many people had their skis stolen in places like Folie Douce or Bar 360, so that is something to be aware of. Otherwise, it was mostly good.

Had a brilliant time with my university ski trip - Val Thorens was an excellent place to be based. Busy village with plenty going on, but the slopes were still lovely and quiet this early in the season. Access to the 3 valleys is amazing and the amount of well maintained slopes is unreal - would highly recommend

I visited and got the 3 valley pass. There was a lot of variation on where to go and the runs were mostly wide and groomed. The town itself was very fun - lots of night life and a great Apre Ski place mid mountain. The town was a bit pricey for food and drinks but the views were insane and worth it. Hardest part was having to travel there because you had to get to the town then fine a bus to take you up. Overall was great!

Skiing was great, even with not loads of snow, runs were groomed really well and at altitude, skied very well into the afternoon. Access to Meribel and Courchevel was extremely useful and provided tons of great skiing, so highly recommended to get the three valleys lift pass that let's you take advantage of the massive ski area. VT meals out weren't cheap in the slightest, but as a high end resort, that is to be expected. If venturing over to Courchevel for the day, prepare to pay a lot for meals on the slope, although grizzlies burger bar is pretty well priced, and the food is great! If heading over to Courchevel, do it first thing, then work one valley over to get Meribel as the sun reaches it. The shadow side runs can stay icy well into the day.

Have gone to Val Thorens two years in a row, the resort is so big you get to enjoy each day new areas, lots of off piste if the snow conditions are good. Pistes can be long and wide to enjoy even if the area is busy.
