What Skiers Say About Tignes

Tignes attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting the vast ski area, high altitude ensuring reliable snow coverage, and strong connections to Val d'Isère. The après-ski scene, particularly venues like Cocorico's and Folie Douce, receives frequent praise. Multiple users mention well-groomed pistes, efficient lift systems, and minimal queuing outside peak periods. Common criticisms include high prices for food, drink, and lift passes, limited terrain for complete beginners (many greens require blues to access), and a lack of tree-lined runs due to the high altitude. Several reviewers describe the resort architecture as functional rather than picturesque, and conditions can become icy or mogul-heavy by late afternoon.

Awesome powder and amazing apres. Everything you could want from a ski holiday. Good mixture of different levels but probably more targeted to more experienced skiers. Loads of bars high up in the mountains but easy ski down after a few beers!

Visited March 2025, group of friends

Stayed in self-catering apartment. We stayed very basic place, however plenty of options for something fancier or hotels. Great location close to all lifts (Val claret) and coco rico.

Ski area excellent especially with pass for val d'isere. We had varying abilities in group loads for everyone.

Apres really good.

Food options in evening amazing

We took our 4 yr old skiing to Tignes and it was perfect. Blue sky's, loads of snow, incredibly child friendly and quite, the are above La Folie Douce is amazing for beginners and easy to get to with a great cafe /restaurant up there too. Next to the beginner runs are more advanced steeps, off piste and motorway cruising runs for the more advanced.

I really loved it in Tignes last year. I did a bit of everything and despite France not being the most vegetarian friendly place I still managed to find options. The snow was quite hard, but it was there and the skiing was great. I did quite a bit of skiing off piste and there were a few options despite it being early in the season.

I had a great time in Tignes last December, I was there for a week and had lessons for the first 3 days and then went off for the final 4. The instructor quality and knowledge was exceptional and really gave me the fundamental skills to go off and ski. By the end of the week I was able to do black runs and some off piste sections. The amount of runs in Tignes are amazing, there are so many slopes for different skill levels which are all exceptionally groomed. The off piste skiing is really strong with plenty of sections and good powder due to its high altitude. The apres ski in Tignes is amazing, especially Cocorico in Val Claret! Tignes is connected to Val-D’Isère giving you direct access to the folie douce which was a real highlight for me. The quality and quantity of lifts were amazing, they all ran well and were up kept extremely well. Overall, I think that Tignes is one of the best and most overlooked ski resort in the alps - it truly has it all. I can’t wait to return next season.

Tignes is sick for boarders, so much off piste within resort. So vast and spread out can always find quiet areas. Love it. Been 3 times and will be my fourth in January 2026
