What Skiers Say About Chamonix

Chamonix attracts predominantly intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the resort is less suitable for complete beginners due to steep, challenging terrain. The resort comprises multiple separate ski areas accessed by free buses, which reviewers mention frequently as both convenient and occasionally frustrating. Off-piste skiing and steep groomers receive consistent praise from advanced riders, whilst the town itself is described as lively with good restaurants and bars, though dining and accommodation are repeatedly flagged as expensive. Several reviewers mention that runs can be narrow and that lift infrastructure feels dated in places. Weather-dependent snow cover at lower elevations and avalanche-related closures are noted across multiple visits.

Really enjoyed our trip to Chamonix! All resorts were easily accessed via public bus. Resorts are a bit different to US resorts so definitely do some research on the terrain and which days you want to visit each (it’s hard to do more than 1 in a day)

It was a beautiful town and mountain despite the snow being a bit scarce this season. Lots of different lifts and mountains to choose from and a few different aprés options as well! Lines were a bit long due to seasonality but moved pretty quickly

The most beautiful place with everything you could possibly want from a ski resort! 5* I visited twice, once as a couple and again with two young children and it has everything, such a special place!

Best of the best if you’re at least intermediate. Would highly recommend if you love a long red run and some very difficult black runs/off piste. Not great for beginners.

Each day a different ski area, no connected lifts so renting a car is advisable!

Great resort for experienced skiiers especially good of piste areas to explore however having to get a bus to and from gondolas to the town is a downside and on piste there isn’t a lot for beginners to intermediate skiers the town itself is very good for all ages with good shops restaurants and activities however the apres isn’t all that with only a few options to choose from in conclusion for a experienced skier/snowboarder it’s a great place to visit however one to avoid possibly for the less confident skiers

Lovely town, next to no apres ski though. Good terrain with access to 4 different mountains with the standard pass. Italy’s resort is a 40 minute bus ride away and Geneva is less than 2 hours

Big mountain, big terrain! Get ready for some wild of paste if you catch it with good conditions, avalanche transceivers probes, shovels and respect for the Mountain is certainly needed in this Resort if you want to use it for a full potential. Charmony has a rugged style. It’s not like some of the typical French resorts. You can still find that luxury but be prepared to see more of a pragmatic ski resort. Doesn’t industrial smog that can sometimes sit in the valley.
If you’re looking for a family friendly trip with fondue and Areski, maybe look elsewhere.

Amazing for feeling like you’re in a glamorous hub that’s picture perfect - but the epitome of an expensive ski break at times! But we chose this and always like being in the pulse of the apres and fun!

i liked chamonix! it’s a little different than where i am used to skiing and you have to get buses to different parts of the resort, which was fine and allowed flexibility for when the weather was best in a given place! The slopes were groomed well but a little busy and the lifts were good and the queues weren’t too long. Apres is in the town rather than on the mountain which is useful to know ahead of time i think!

We stayed in Les houses and used the superb buses to get to Brevant and Le flagere daily. Both areas were great as my daughter was still a learner.

It was such an amazing place to learn how to ski. The instructors were wonderful and so patient. The slopes were well groomed, such a variety of activities even if you’re not a skier/snowboarder.

Learned to Snowboard last year in Chamonix with my then Girlfriend. We had a special time in one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I proposed to her on our last day at the top of Aguille du midi (she said yes!) it was a great experience and has left me longing for another trip to create more special memories with my future family.

A lot of areas to discover skiing wise so you won’t get bored, not as many restaurants on the mountain to eat at but plenty to do within the town
