What Skiers Say About Chamonix

Chamonix attracts predominantly intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the resort is less suitable for complete beginners due to steep, challenging terrain. The resort comprises multiple separate ski areas accessed by free buses, which reviewers mention frequently as both convenient and occasionally frustrating. Off-piste skiing and steep groomers receive consistent praise from advanced riders, whilst the town itself is described as lively with good restaurants and bars, though dining and accommodation are repeatedly flagged as expensive. Several reviewers mention that runs can be narrow and that lift infrastructure feels dated in places. Weather-dependent snow cover at lower elevations and avalanche-related closures are noted across multiple visits.

Expensive but very fun! Rookie skier, comfortable with the blues usually, occasional easier red but these reds were insane!
Not a big party town, very family friendly

Chamonix is great if you love your off piste. Decent amount of pistes but the off piste is what makes it great. It is spread out across the valley so dont expect a massive linked ski area, hit a new lift station each day. Great bars and pubs make up for lack of slopeside partying. The history and lore of the place and the scenery is epic.

Massive ski area that’s generally suited to more advanced skiers, mainly red and black runs throughout the Mont Blanc resort. The food options are were this resort shines, they have everything from pizza to sushi to curry to fondue. One slightly annoying thing is the fact you have to get the bus to each ski area. No real on piste apres ski but lots of variety in chamonix including 2 nightclubs, the nightclub nights in the fole duce hotel was a personal highlight.

Lots of opportunities to ski the mountains, La Tours is my favourite. The town is beautiful with plenty of shops do shopping and many restaurants.
Chamonix is ideal as it’s a short flight from the UK with only an hour transfer.

Went at Christmas. There wasn’t much snow but the resorts were well maintained with well groomed pistes. Mountain restaurants needed pre booking. Ski bus service is excellent if you don’t have a car but can get busy at peak times.

Great options from the main town. Grand Montets main choice. Big fast lifts up to a massive open ski area with mogul field.
Not to miss is the 25km Vale Blanche from the Aigue du Midi.

Chamonix is a beautiful resort and perfect for an intermediate skier. Transport connections are much better than a decent amount of resorts.

Chamonix is a fantastic resort for all abilities - if you want to take it easy there are cruisy blues and greens to while away a few hours, or take it up a notch to reds and blacks that give you all the thrills. The resort itself is packed with amazing restaurants and bars - a truly special place

Went with family and friends and took advantage of the unlimited pass. Stayed by the brevent lift which was 5 minutes walk into the main town. There is a little bit of beginner friendly slopes but is mostly geared towards intermediate and above. The gondola up Mont Blanc was busy but worth the visit.

Chamonix is a great place for either very experienced riders or groups with non skiers in as there’s lots to do. I’d recommend checking where the bus stops are and how to get to the areas you want to ski when booking your hotel. There’s some great apres highly recommend chambre neuf.

Lovely atmospheric town, beautiful buildings, large ski area with a good variety of slopes and I really enjoyed the snow park.
I visited with my family but also had a friend join, it was the perfect combination of family vibes while still having good night life for myself and my friend to enjoy a bit of apres.
I found Chamonix to be more on the expensive side but that’s expected considering its location and quality.

Chamonix is simply unreal. The place has an incredible energy to it, chilled but at the same time buzzing and with so much to do I could easily spend all season there. The mountains constantly reminding you where you are when they make an appearance out of the clouds. I managed to find a brilliant little ground-floor chalet let for very good money, which made the whole stay feel easy and comfortable, a real home from home vibe. Waking up there, heading out and soaking up the vibe of the town and the surroundings was something special, it was my first time visiting. I'd definitely say it's one of those places that gets under your skin, and I’ll definitely be heading back before long... Maybe in a couple of months.

I loved chamonix! I thought it was one of if not the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. Everywhere you looked was stunning. The terrain was huge and there was so much to ski, but it is not for the faint of heart. The terrain is very technical and challenging. We weren’t sure what to expect but the apres wasn’t as big as resorts like Val thorens, but still a good amount of night life. The accommodations were much cheaper than most other ski towns we found, so that’s why we went with it. Overall loved the resort.

Had a great time. Been before but this time came with family. Chamonix village offers more for families due to its size. The ice rink was good fun. Lots of lift capacity and big open runs. Runs can be pretty sparse though when so high up but would still happily return.
