Avoriaz is one of those ski resorts that just hits the sweet spotfun, functional, and with a unique vibe that stands out from other Alpine destinations. Perched high above the Portes du Soleil area, its got ski-in, ski-out convenience everywhere you look, thanks to its car-free design and compact layout. Seriously, youll see horse-drawn sleighs instead of cars, which is kind of magical.

The skiing? Perfect for intermediates and families, with plenty of wide, cruisy pistes and easy access to neighboring resorts like Morzine and Les Gets. That said, theres plenty to challenge experts too, especially with the infamous Swiss Wall nearby. Its not for the faint-hearted, but bragging rights await if you conquer it!

For beginners, the resort itself is friendly, and ski schools are excellent. Snowboarders will love the freestyle parks, which are some of the best in Europe. Plus, Avoriaz tends to get great snow compared to other resorts in the area.

Tips? Book earlyits popular with families, so accommodations can fill up quickly. Stock up on snacks and essentials because prices in resort shops can be steep. Oh, and dont miss the Aquariaz water park for some post-ski relaxation.

Great resort to learn to ski in. The ski school instructor (Melanie) was really supportive and patient and there are some good length green runs (down through the tunnel) that helps you get used to the basics before moving onto more challenging blues.

The slopes are quite busy but there are a wide range of runs and it did not ever feel too busy to be safe.

The apre ski at La Foulie Douce was great fun. They have a fantastic restaurant on the top floor and the music outside on the terrace was very good. The food and drink are fairly well priced for a ski resort, and there are a variety of more budget friendly places to eat.

Amazing resort, one of the best I've visited. Tonnes of amazing pistes with options for all skill levels. With the porte du solieil you are never short on choices for things to do with the likes of morzine, les gets and les crozats on the door step. The lift system is very consistent and the snow is well groomed and on powder days is amazing quality. Apres ski is very good, everything being within walking distance including the foule douce. Just an all around amazing resort suitable for all skill levels and all types of ski trip.

Went skiing last year in March and will be doing so again March 2025. The skiing is great, good range of slopes for all ages and levels. The ski parks are wicked and the Lee is enough off piste to keep the easier tracks exciting. The aprés also is unmatched, if youre looking for a mid day drink with some good tunes head to la folie douce for a class party. Beers and food can be a bit pricey but 100% worth it. Morzine town is lovely for night time drinks and food if you want to make the trip.

Avoriaz is a fantastic resort with access to one of the worlds largest area of groomed pistes; however, theres lots to do apart from hitting the slopes. It is great for families and groups of friends, has a great aprés ski scene and with Morzines village at the bottom of the mountain, you have access to all the amenities you may need whilst on your holiday. Definitely recommend but avoid the French half term holidays!

Avoriaz is a real centre point resort with the ability to ski the largest interconnected Ski Region in Europe with the iconic Swiss wall just over the mountain from the bottom of the Arare. Because of the resorts height it's an ideal location for early and late seasons and is consistent with holding a base throughout the season.

Park sections.
Arare - is the highest park section with an advanced setup and more Olympic style park features, Half/quarter pipes, Wall rides and small to large jumps along with Off pisteing.
Avoriaz Centre(you'll see this from the carpark and go over it on the Procleu lift) - Small to large jumps and box/rail sections which get frequently changed to keep things interesting, close proximity drag lift to keep you in that flowstate.
Lil Stash (Procleu tree section on the bottom right after the rollers) - Made for smaller skiers and boarders, skiable treetop house section when snow conditions are good, but more of just a tree run than a Snowpark.
Stash(between Avoriaz and Linderets) - More of a freestyle area with an interesting array of different features, Wall rides, rails , benches and jumps. This Section is for those looking to have some real fun.


When the snow really hits, the TS6 Tour lift up to the Avoriaz top section above Folie Deuce tends get busy quickly with those coming up from Morzine or day tripping from local villages commuting up the prodain/ardent/super Morzine lifts need to accommodate for this.
Areas best for the powder during / after a dump.

Arare - Wide, fairly open and a variety of challenges to be had including the snowpark.
Zore - When Avoriaz gets busy the Super Morzine region can be brilliant as the majority is wide and plenty of tree runs/off piste jumps to play with..

The Procleu run is perfect for beginners as it's very wide with a semi decent gradient to learn on with well groomed uphill rollers to keep those learning at speed but still viable for those wanting speed to keep it from the first corner from the back of L'Amara hotel.

Be aware when there's heavy snow the gondola down from Super Morzine - Morzin can get quite busy quickly and the queue ends up outside in the snow.

The resort is friendly and vibrant with a real Aura about it. During the winter months the resorts turns pedestrians only with the exception for horse and carts and snowcats transporting visitors.

Apres, well the world famous Folie Deuce is always a hit with a few other late night spots further down into the resort going on late into the night.
Happy Hour bar at the bottom of Ardent is also a great alternative to those travelling in from montriand by bus or St Jean D'Aulps by car as the car park and bus stop is right outside.

Avoriaz hosts Snowboxx festival from generally the 3 Saturday of the month of march running for a week. You do not have to buy a ticket to the festival to experience alot of the activities during the day, Apres at Folie Deuce is taken over by Snowboxx and alot of residents will sit on the hill behind with drinks and food enjoying the free Acts.
They do also host Roc the Piste the same week across Port Du Soleil aswell as others across the season.

Restaurants a plenty. All great food but make sure to book evening meals if possible especially any that show sport i.e Chapka as they get busy quickly.
Places like The Terrace in Linderets Goats village offer spectacular views for dining during the day, aswell as an apres session on Wednesdays(book this a few days in advance not to be disappointed)
Late night Kebab shop in the middle of the town serving burgers,pizzas,kebabs,beers and shots till the early morning.
Cookie Cafe up the top of the Mossettes Lift is a must for the views as the highest point of Avoriaz, Also the Bao buns are amazing. If your not experienced enough to ride the Swiss wall you can still see it Infront of you on the the way back down on the west looking towards the Chavenette lift when looking at the piste map.

The Sunsets in Avoriaz are legendary so be sure to catch them.

Overall Avoriaz is a great ski resort and one of my favourites Ive been to. We skied between Xmas and New Years and there was plenty of fresh snow and the pistes were in very good condition. Some of the runs did get a bit slushy or icy when you got further down towards Morzine, however, everything above Avoriaz was pristine. There are a wide range of run difficulties to choose from, including one of our favourite long blue runs, Proclou. Avoriaz also has an unpisted, but marked out, off-piste park. This is a great challenge for anyone that is not too familiar with skiing off-piste but is not too difficult to navigate your way down. Finally, Avoriaz has some really fun bars to head to for apres ski, including La Folie Deux for a more upmarket vibe, but also some great little dive bar type places in town. I would recommended Avoriaz to anyone!

Love Avoriaz, such a great place to go and very close to Geneva. Will never run out of piste here, and the town is lovely with horse drawn taxis to take you around

The area near chatel has great snow and tends to be a little quieter. The igloo bar is a great stop off on the piste. Little stash park is great for getting into jumps and jibs. Big stash park great for watching people going BIG!

Absolutely fantastic resort. Quirky avant gardę architecture and compact layout leave everything a short walk, or carriage ride, away. Reasonable prices and great shops, bakeries, restaurants, bars and clubs. Ski in ski out accommodation and great lifts and escalators to get around the verticality of town. As for the skiing, very snowboarder friendly with only a few flat areas and amazing parks, piste, off piste, and a huge range of slopes throughout the Portes du Soleil ski area. Every day something different, with amazing bluebird conditions in late March. Would absolutely go again.

Would thoroughly recommend avoriaz! We stayed just opposite la folie douche, which was really handy for apres maybe not so good for a young family.. loads of groomed piste throughout the linked resorts! Restaurants staff are sometimes a little rude and short but after a decade of skiing in france you get used to it.. the resort is well serviced and maintained.

Stayed in what we could find as the cheapest accommodation in Avoriaz. Ill be honest it was wrank, but it was ski in ski out and the bed was comfortable. Went with another advanced skier and one total beginner, cant speak for the lesson quality but my beginner friend had fun. Lots of piste options and variety in France and over the border in Switzerland. Obviously the Swiss wall is the most famous ski run in the area, however due to bad weather it was closed almost every day. The stash offers great options for skiing in and over obstacles and a good place to practice. The town itself does not have that traditional feel you get across the rest of the portes du soleil but it has all amenities you can ask for and a folie deuce. Overall, a great skiing experience and would go back given the opportunity.

Avoiraz located in Les Portes du Soleil offers an extremely mixed variety of skiing allowing for enjoyable skiing to be had as either a beginner or advanced skier. The 600km (372 miles) of pistes runs in the Portes du Soleil, which can be accessed from avoriaz, ensures for endless turns no matter the conditions and this doesnt even include the off piste potential at this resort. The variety of off piste terrain also provides technical and exciting powder turns. After spending a full season at this resort, I never once found myself bored or unable to ski due to conditions and I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to ski in Europe.

Had a great time skiing here, the only downside was the over all cost is a little high but great skiing

The resort had amazing terrain parks with well groomed snow. Another run named the stash inbetween the trees that combine the two. There were little to no lift lines as it is a big resort. The apres ski is amazing as the foile douce is situated up the mountain for some apres ski. The food in the village was amazing and there were numerous things to do whilst not skiing or snowboarding

Fantastic resort for all abilities. Slightly low so bit weather dependent but when its good, its amazing. The food options up the mountain are incredible and we absolutely love the goat village. For a real challenge, take on the swiss wall!

I have many fond memories of this resort, having worked a season there as a chalet chef. The resort is ideal for families, with great ski schools and many extra activities like the water park. Its also a car free resort with horse draw sleighs if you fancy! The views across the alps are incredible from Mont Blanc to the many tree runs featuring the stash a unique ski park. Theres something for everyone across the massive Portes du Soliel ski area, including the famous Swiss wall. Magical resort with huge portes du Soleil ski area on your doorstep. Great for families, and Folie Douce for the best aprés.

We went to Avoriaz in January and were quite surprised by the lack of slow (for January) as we came up through Morzine but got up to Avoriaz and snow was great. Stayed that way for the first few days but we managed to get a good couple of days of runs up in Avoriaz.

A bit more snow later in the week opened up the rest of the portes du soleil area which was loads to keep you going for the week.

Great mix of runs to cater for mixed ability groups. A particular favourite was the stash and lil stash is a great little run for the kids.

Culminated the week going down La Chavanette which was one of the more challenging runs Ive done in a while, yet still plenty of easier runs to supplement.

The apres was pretty good, although Id say the folie isnt quite on the same level as it is in Val Thoren.

The resort itself is lovely and has a great selection of bars and restaurants offering plenty of choice, however it can be quite pricey.

In summary, Avoriaz is a great all rounder and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend!
