What Skiers Say About Alpe d'Huez

Alpe d'Huez attracts a broad range of skiers from beginners to experts, with users frequently noting the extensive green and blue runs that make it particularly suitable for learners and families. The resort's high altitude and sunny aspect are regularly mentioned, though this can lead to variable snow conditions lower down and slushy afternoons in spring. Multiple reviewers highlight the long runs, especially the Sarenne black, and the efficient lift system connecting to satellite villages like Vaujany and Oz. Après-ski receives mixed feedback, with Folie Douce praised but some users noting limited options and early closing times. Food quality both on-mountain and in town is consistently well-regarded, though prices are noted as typical for a French resort.

We enjoyed a weeks skiing and really enjoyed the cruising around the different villages and the main resort of Alpe d'Huez. But won't be going back as we'd completed it all in 4-5 days except for the Tunnel. But a great resort for beginners and families and those progressing onto the blues. The Sarenne isn't 16km/10 miles long, it's 7 miles long and a third of it is a blue/green flat track at the end but it is a lovely run and wasn't mogully as I'd previously read. Local food was really good especially the burgers at Smithys and the pizzas at Roti in Bergers. Watch being double charged at Chez Leo which was a nice chilled out bar but didn't go back after this. Also the restaurant at the bottom of Font Froid is very good and the service and welcome you get is good too. The Scare Chair is fun but not for those with a faint heart. The apres-ski is ok and the reason for the ok is that they are all spread around the slope. But, if like me, you don't mind walking then they are all good.

We had some good piste snow but wasn’t the best for our off piste powder days this year. Being quite windy most of the fresh pow was whipped away. The very highest lift was also shut being repaired unfortunately, so only completing part of sorren. Food was good. Ramen and burger spot was very good. Smithy’s tavern with live music was the best. Our chalet was right on the slopes with good facilities. A very enjoyable resort for friends and families

Great blues and reds for intermediates. Some good blacks but good be more. Lots of runs to connect across Vaujany, Oz, Alp d’huez and Auris. Lifts can be a bit slower than in other places and some of the iconic black runs like The Tunnel can be weather dependent - was shut the whole time we were there due to a cable car lift failure. But great skiing on piste and some fun off piste elements. Overall highly recommend for the perfect combination of relaxing but challenging skiing in good conditions.

Good varied ski area with plenty of pistes for all levels, especially beginners as lots of nice greens and blues. La folie douce is quite high up so shuts early so Apres isn’t the best time wise but good when up there and good down at the bottom. Towns nice lots of good bars and restaurants and was also high enough to be covered in snow. Transfer isn’t too long from Grenoble or Geneva. Would go back

Alpe d'Huez was a fantastic ski resort for my second season. For other beginners, it had lovely spacious greens to get back into the swing, and then lots of easy blues to challenge myself with.

I did intermediate ski school with esf and had the best experience, great instructor who took us all over the resort in blues and my technique definitely improved.

One thing we noticed was the connectivity to other local resorts and areascwas very efficient by ski lift.

We would definitely go back.

Had the best time at alpes d’heuz, lovely sunny skiing, slopes were well maintained and accessible. Plenty to do for a week. If you are intermediate/advanced sarenne run is the best.

When visiting in 2024 the resort was great and the conditions were good considering we went late in the season. The had lots of runs good for all abilities. The night life was also great and had lots of different apres spots for those who love to apres.

Outstanding resort that has something for everyone. 3rd time to Alpe d'huez, it just keeps drawing me back. If the tunnel run is something that's drawing you there, you won't be disappointed, its a great run but be mindful the mogul fields can get wild in the afternoon.

Such a great resort, great access to the slopes, with an amazing choice and variety of ski runs for everyone! The most fun Green runs of any resort! … and I usually ski Blue & Red, so everyone can ski together. Lovely restaurants and fun bars too.

We loved our family experience so much we are going again with friends this year! Lifts are busy in the mornings but good wait times throughout the day. Really nice blue runs and a nice family experience. 2-4 was always fun with apre!! The dog sleigh ride and toboggans were also a good way to break up a day!

Nice for a quieter trip, I much prefer Vaujany connected to Alp D’huez so you get the whole area. Good for families.

Snow was a bit sparse at the beginning of the week which meant little off piste options and the runs got a little icy, had a massive dump at the end of the week though which sorted this issue out. Resort had lots of food options and seemed quite family friendly. We went first week of Jan which was really quiet on the slopes. Pic Blanc 3 lift was broken though due to a storm in October which meant little choice for doing blacks. The Sarenne was beautiful and a must ski if you can!

This was our 2nd visit to Alpe D'Huez and it wasn't quite as good as I remembered. However, this was mainly due to the late season and below average snow conditions. There were still plenty of runs available, as long as you stayed high.

The resort was definitely winding down, and some pistes seem to have been given up on by the groomers. As riders who like to get in that last run we didn't see Ski Patrol as much as usual, but we did manage to wangle a lift with them down on a skidoo, when there was a whiteout, so thanks, guys!

The village was charming with a little gondola for the morning and afternoon commute. Despite the late season prices were still high for gear and food, but was typically of a high quality. A beautiful area - we'll be back!

Had a great time in Alpe D’huez. Went with a university group so cannot comment on finding accommodation personally, but slope and facilities wise - Alpe D’Huez was a great location to ski as an intermediate. Beautiful runs, not too busy and plenty atmosphere around the town. I would be back, but if you’re looking for a ski location where you never have to repeat a run for there is so much choice.. then perhaps look elsewhere. Whilst certainly big enough, Alpe D’Huez felt on the smaller side in comparison to other major resorts.
