We went late in the season, so only 1600 and above was open but the slopes were well groomed , lifts were fast and all staff were very friendly and helpful. Shops, hire shops, liftys restaurants and hotel staff all great. Hired kit was the best I've hired yet.

I have been to Alpe D'huez 3 times now throughout the years and have a soft spot for it.

* It is big enough for a good skier to have enough to do for a week
* It is big enough that crowds are spread out
* The area reaches relatively high altitude so it is snow-sure
* Big town so plenty to do
* Lot's of places to drink, great Apres as well, easy access to supermarkets
* Often in the sun making it really hot (hopefully not forever so it doesn't melt!)

Went over new years week and although very busy in the main centre if you went a few lifts away it was fine. Most of the off piste was closed. Great for families as loads to do and the village centre is compact and easy to get to.

My first skiing experience in the French Alps and one to remember! I joined my university ski club in my final year to experience it whilst I still could and managed to secure a spot on the coveted annual ski trip. I was also lucky enough to stay in accommodation with ski-in ski-out access, making it easy to be one of the first on the slopes in the morning to beat the lift queues. Once out, the world is your oyster in terms of the number and variety of pistes on offer, with runs ranging from gentle, cruising greens all the way to the famed "La Sarenne" black run, being the longest in Europe. And to access all of these slopes across the mountain, the resort has a large network of lifts that make traversing it seamless, where smart timing can virtually eliminate wait-times. On that note, even given the popularity of the resort, you can easily find yourself miles away from all the crowds by exploring the outer areas, with lifts branching out across the mountain range. Got bored of skiing the same couple of runs and queues building? Just hop on a chair, traverse a literal valley and you can find yourself carving a run entirely on your own. The options are endless. And you will need a week at LEAST to see all that this resort has to offer (especially if you want to enjoy the Apres to the fullest).
If, at the end of the day you still have some energy left to spend, the resort town has plenty of social amenities to check out. It has everything from restaurants, to pubs and bars that stay open till late. So, if you're looking for a well-rounded ski trip with something to suit all ranges of age, ability and energy, Alpes d'Huez is well worth a visit for any budding skier (and/or partyer).

Great family resort if you want something for everyone. Our family were looking for great off-piste, challenging skiing, apres ski, terrain parks, cruisy blues and reds, ski in ski out, easy to access by car, big ski area, modern lifts, some shopping and off-slope activity (e.g. swimming and ice skating), good value for money, high altitude / snowsure. Alpe D'Huez delivered on all of these and kept everyone in the family happy. We went in half term. It was busy but we soon found our way around and generally managed to avoid the big queues. Great holiday, booked again for next year!

I just spent 11 days in Alpe D'Huez by myself. The first week I was in the MMV Les Bergers which is right beside the Marmotte lift and the rest of the time I was at La Castallan Hotel near the Grand Sure lift.

The resort had a wide range of terrain for all levels. The black runs are mostly at the top from Pic Blanc or Marmotte 3 lift and the greens are by the village.

There are some runs that do have flat bits which can be difficult for boarders but if you are a decent boarder you will be fine to get across them.

My favourite run was Sarenne, which is a black run from Pic Blanc 3300m and I got fresh tracks on it with the pisteurs. You can buy a ticket for 26 on top of your ski pass.

Overall a great resort!
