What Skiers Say About Schladming

Schladming attracts predominantly intermediate to advanced skiers, many of whom return regularly over multiple years. The resort spans four connected mountains with well-groomed pistes and an efficient, modern lift system that reviewers consistently praise. Most users highlight the tree-lined runs, reasonable on-mountain dining prices, and family-friendly atmosphere. A recurring criticism is that the town sits on the opposite side of the valley from some accommodation, requiring ski bus use. Several reviewers note the resort is better suited to intermediates than experts, though World Cup runs provide some challenge. Late-season conditions can become slushy in afternoons.

Our late January into early February trip to Schladming was another brilliant one—and there’s definitely a reason we’ve now been four times.

It’s such a huge ski area that you never really feel like you’re repeating the same runs too much. Every day we found ourselves heading somewhere slightly different, which keeps it interesting even after multiple visits. The slopes are usually in great condition, and that held true again this year. Maybe by the end of the week we could’ve done with a bit more fresh snow, but honestly it didn’t affect things in any major way.

One of the things we always look forward to here is the après ski, and it didn’t disappoint. There’s a really fun atmosphere on the mountain, and loads of good spots to stop for a drink or a bite to eat during the day. It’s not just about skiing from top to bottom—you end up making a whole day of it.

The town itself is a big part of why we like it so much. It’s got plenty going on, with lots of different bars and restaurants to try, but it still feels manageable and easy to get around. You’re not trekking miles just to find somewhere decent in the evening.

The only slight downside this time was that we accidentally hit the German school holidays, so it was definitely busier than when we’ve been before. You notice it a bit more on certain lifts and popular runs, but it didn’t ruin anything.

Overall, it was still an amazing trip. Good skiing, great atmosphere, and it’s always felt like pretty decent value for money compared to other resorts we’ve tried. Hard to see us not going back again at some point.

Excellent intermediate Family friendly resort. Staying anywhere in the centre of rhe town near the Planai ski lift is so handy. You can rent your skis there and they have a ski depot just across the road, so handy if you have kids. Great ski run if you get the ski bus to Gleiming and ski back to Schladming covering three mountains. Would recommend this resort and would go back.

4 separate mountains all accessed from the valley floor. Majority of hotels on the opposite side of this valley, so use of the ski bus is necessary to avoid a long, steep walk! Almost all of the pistes are treelined!

4 connected hills form the main resort but the pass gives access to a large area, some accessible by bus but a car needed for the more distant areas.

Mainly a red resort with beginner slopes at mid mountain. The lower slopes became soft in the afternoon in late March, not an issue earlier in the season. The upper slopes were always good. We had some magical runs on the tree lined pistes.

We have skied the Fageralm and St Johan in Pongau on the pass, and enjoyed these as well.

Plenty of on piste restaurants/bars with good food and great views.

We have visited several times.

Not that well known given it has hosted the Ski World Cup and major competitions, many times.
The resort itself had lots of lifts that took us all over the mountains, however the runs themselves were not that long in Schladming itself.

Great location, good options for beginners to intermediate/ more experienced skiiers. Lots of bars and restaurants. Only thing is that the town is quite small and we couldn’t get a table on Fri Eve, so ended up with a takeaway pizza, so definitely book in advance! Luckily our apartment was great so could make food. Would go back again!

Stayed at the Royer Sporthotel. Quite a place. Biggest indoor pool of any hotel I've stayed in. Excellent spa- 2 different temperature dry saunas, infrared sauna and steam bath. Had the half board option. Full breakfast buffet with omelet bar and for course supper every night. Food was excellent. Had the four area pass. You can ski or bus free to each area. Extremely modern lift network. Grooming is excellent. Many great local restaurant options on mountain.

Me and my family have been to this ski resort twice and we absolutely love it here! There is a wide range of runs for all abilities. I particularly love the option to ski through the trees on their blue runs, its so pretty. I would definitely recommend this resort, and I cant wait to come back! They also have a bus shuttle service to Hochwurzen, which is free during the day for people with ski passes!
