What Skiers Say About Obertauern

Obertauern attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with families also featuring prominently. Reviewers consistently praise the resort's snow reliability, well-groomed pistes, modern lift system, and the circular bowl layout that makes navigation straightforward. The ski-in/ski-out access and lack of lift queues are frequently mentioned positives. Après-ski receives mixed feedback—some enjoy the lively bars like Hochalm and Lürzerhütte, while others find the nightlife limited compared to larger Austrian resorts. Several reviewers note limited terrain for absolute beginners and experts, with most runs being blues and reds. Piste signage occasionally confuses visitors, and mountain restaurants can become crowded at peak times with limited table availability.

A quiet unpretentious resort high in the Alps with snow sure conditions through until May. Excellent cross section of slopes all very easy to reach. Wide cross section of accommodation and friendly village spirit run by locals for locals. Highly recommended.

An incredible snow record for a resort without a glacier and not particularly high. A deceptively large ski area with lots of reds. Runs arent as long as other resorts but are well looked after. Lots of great mountain restaurants and bars in town. The ski instructors we had for our kids were amazing! Loads of parking if you dont stay piste side.

A great resort in Austria, with generally very good snow conditions and a longer season than most resorts. Some fantastic mid length carving runs for sunny days with bashed pistes, and solid off-piste powder cutting between runs. Some larger bowls in the resort for bigger off-piste, as well as a few big runs off the back face of the mountains with a guide. Overall great resort!
