Katschberg-Aineck and the close by resorts of Grosseck-Speiereck, Fanningberg are a part of the Lungau ski region. These are well connected with free public buses. The resort is not your usual highly commercialised in catering for every aspect place, it is much more low key, the pistes are very well groomed and theres some fantastic runs including the so-called A1 on Aineck which is over 6 km long. I particularly like the huts and one needs mentioning above all., Köslbacher Alm. The food is completely authentic for the region and very reasonably priced. The views are stunning. The whole resort Is very well looked after, it caters well for families and for people are looking for a little bit more authenticity in Austria. There are no exceptionally difficult runs, A few blacks though that are really good. The pistes are extremely well groomed so its a heaven for piste skiers. On the off piste its not really a place that I would recommend. Weatherwise, it is so often very nice and sunny because its on the south side of the Tauern so keeps the bad weather away when its coming from the north. For people with itchy feet, they can also visit the neighbouring resorts of Obertauern for a more lively experience and Zauchensee/Flachau-Winkel, which is a Worldcup resort. All in all is a absolutely lovely place to stay.

Just came back from Katschberg. It was our first time and it was amazing. Even though there was no snowfall all runs were snowed and groomed every night. It has a lot of options from those for beginners to advanced skiers. There are many ski schools available. From super expensive ones in the hotels to really good ones, just approac any instructor and ask.We had 3 private lessons and two days in ski school for our 4y old and he could go with us on (mikd) red runs...We highly recommend this one for families

Great family resort, slopes lovely & quiet and good value for money. Mostly red runs. Be aware there is no apres ski scene.
