What Skiers Say About Red Mountain

Red Mountain attracts predominantly advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders seeking steep, natural terrain and extensive tree skiing. Reviewers consistently highlight minimal lift queues, abundant space with few crowds, and reliable powder conditions, though some note inconsistent snow years with rain events. The resort appeals to those prioritising terrain quality over modern infrastructure, with multiple mentions of slow, older lifts. Accommodations range from the Josie Hotel at the base to town options in nearby Rossland, about 10-15 minutes away. The overall vibe is described as relaxed, authentic, and community-oriented rather than polished or corporate.

Red mtn is a must ski resort for any skill level. It is one of the most diverse mtns i have seen from beginner to full throttle freeride. Ranked 4 in North America by powder magazine for some of the best tree skiing you will ever find. Mild temps and deep pow make for the most awesome days with the most stunning views of the Columbia River valley.

At Red Mountain Resort, you can board down 360° of the mountain. Red is located close to Rossland and Nelson BC, and is a great place to go if you want to split your time between Whitewater and Red. Red is civilized, but lacks the glam of the big resorts, even though it's the 3rd largest resort in Canada. Red has an abundance of groomed runs and although it lacks the incredible and consistent dumps that Whitewater gets, Red has cat-skiing available from the resort for those looking for the pow at a single pay per ride use at a very affordable rate. The sheer size and number of runs will keep any skier/boarder busy for days. Very family friendly and accommodations are minutes away in Rossland.

Red Mountain is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.
Hands down best ski area in BC.
It can be inconsistent depending on the year for snow but when this place is on, it is all time!
Its also still pretty rad without snow.
Paradise lodge is great for lunch or patio beers, and Rafters is always a great place for a pint and nachos for lunch or aprés.

Red and rossland feel like theyre ripped straight out of a Halmark movie. Secluded mountain town so close to resort that you can watch people get laps from Main Street. With some of the most acreage per skier in North America, its not uncommon to find untouched pow 3 days after a storm. The expert terrain is marked a little more vague than some resorts so expect a true free ride experience! Off piste zones come in all shapes and sizes so there is always a tree run or powder stash for every level of rider.

The skiing at Red Mountain Resort is truly fine, especially for advanced skiers who love challenging, powder-filled terrain. The atmosphere is relaxed, with no big crowds, which in itself makes the resort peaceful and unique. There are runs for every class, though beginners might have fewer choices. While it offers amazing terrain and a laid-back atmosphere, it has limited options for beginners and fewer amenities compared to larger resorts.

I had the pleasure to live at Red Mountain for a couple of years and it wasnt enough. Red Resort is epic. From gladded runs, tight trees, and big cliffs, Red has it all. I found myself on 50cm+ days on my 10th run of the day getting fresh tracks and not waiting in lines every pow day, even Christmas! It has three different mountains in the resort so people spread out and. If you go to red ski with a local and youll have some real fun. Rossland itself is a great town, that is quiet and teleports you into the gold rush era with historic buildings filling its one Main Street. If you are lucky enough to catch Red on a good day you grin with its memory for years to come.

Best steep tree skiing resort in North America. Like Jackson Hole without the invasion of corporate america.

Limited lift system accessing varied terrain. Compared to European resorts there arent as many groomed runs, but you can pretty much ski the whole mountain so there are lots of options for off piste and bumps. Most of the skiing is below the tree line and theres lots of great glade skiing. Its a friendly ski area with a couple of nice places to eat on the hill and and lively bar for food and beers at the base, as well as some more upmarket restaurants. There is an increasing amount of accommodation on the hill, as well as the town of Rossland ten minutes away where there are a variety of bars and restaurants.

we Spent 2 weeks at Red Mountain in Feb 2024:
Red is one of those ski resorts that you want to tell everyone about but don't actually want to tell anyone in case they all go and ruin it !!

We stayed at the Josie hotel which was directly on the slopes opposite the chair lift and the ski school. completely ski in ski out with a great ski valet service team.
As far as hotels go in resort the Joise is probably the most upmarket there is, its fairly new, clean and offers a good level of service not a European style luxury but still very nice and a luxury local option, good food and a nice bar area. the other choices in resort are limited with the more traditional style condos and apartments to rent

Red offers a fairly extensive ski area with some of the finest BC powder there is, some challenging terrain and some chairlifts that remind you of how much luxury we have in Europe. however at Red your there to ski proper powder not ride heated chairs, eat luxury mountain food or drink wine in the mountains all day, this is a die hard ski resort.
when there is fresh powder at Red the lift lines will get big for first tracks and the shops will open late, the locals are their to ski as well. but don't be put off by the lines for fresh powder most of them ski one run and then head to work or disperse across the mountain.
its a proper old ski town atmosphere and is truly an incredible place to be, if i could go back 20 years id love to have done a season here ! the people are insanely lovely, kind and friendly. the town is 5mins drive from the mountain base and is an old mining town, shops are limited but have everything you need and more .
you can ski for hours at Red on slopes just to yourself still finding fresh powder into the afternoon. and if Red doesn't fill your fresh powder needs, Big Red Cats just 25mins drive from the resort offers amazing Cat skiing with an additional 20,000 acres of fresh powder cat skiing with some amazing guides, I booked up two days with Big Red Cats before i had even looked at Red Mountain and was the main reason for traveling to Red Mountain, Highly recommended them and they cater for abilities from intermediate right the way to extreme level.
downsides were: doesn't matter your there to ski powder and they get plenty !! but the travel time from UK was a bit of a ball ache !!

if you go don't tell to many people

Red is the ultimate ski vacation. No crowds, no lines, just you, the mountain, and a few crazy nice and fun locals. The terrain has something for everyone and the resort is just massive including three different mountains and a fourth you can take a cat up for cat skiing. We go every year now and havent looked back because it is the best trip of the year every time. Have to go rip motherlode laps and then get a pitcher at Rafters afterward and maybe a fancy cocktail at the Josie. We love to stay at the houses that are ski in, ski out and must go to wing night at Rock Cut. We love RED!!

Red Mountain has a family run resort ambiance with lots of runs for all experience levels.

Good ski-in/out accommodations but its location in the BC Powder Triangle makes for excellent skiing in late February or March.
