What Skiers Say About Mt Washington Alpine Resort

Mt Washington attracts primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, with many families and locals from Vancouver Island. Reviewers consistently mention short lift queues, especially midweek, and a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. The terrain offers good variety including tree runs and challenging backside terrain when open, with notable powder days when storms hit. However, snow conditions are frequently described as variable and weather-dependent, with several reviews noting rain, rocks, and heavy coastal snow. Accommodation and food options are limited on-mountain and considered expensive, with minimal village infrastructure.

Fun hill, commonly is busy but also has good snow. Loved the views of the alpine and ocean. Night skiing an option, microwave for lunch, cafeteria options. Frequent fresh snow fall. Well rounded slopes for everyone.

I tried snowboarding for the first time at Mt Washington. I had skied before but as the resort is on the smaller side I thought I would give it ago. The ski school were well organised and kept their adult lessons to small numbers this meant we got more one to one time whilst the other learners practiced what they were just taught. Its a really nice family friendly resort but quite minimal in places to eat or for apres ski.

My Washington has been my local hill for my entire life. It may be small but It has loads to offer, whether ur expert or beginner. The backside is a pretty magical place when there's a dump, and the glades at mt wash can be beautiful. Overall, great local ski hill with great snow.

Mount Washington is truly a hidden gem on Vancouver Island. In good years there is more powder here than most of the better known resorts ( as I write this the base is double Whistler or Banff ).

As a medium sized resort its optimal for younger families. Tweens and teens can roam with friends but still meet with family for lunch.

Accommodation requires some research (think VRBO not hotels.com) but a car-free main village means peaceful evenings tobogganing and walking between cabins.

Great mountain lots of runs.
The village lacks infrastructure.
It could use a proper little market for the people that live there year round.
The power goes out alot....
But can't complain. It's better then grouse Seymour and cypress combined.

Mount Washington can get big dumps of West Coast snow, so heavier snow. Champagne powder is not the typical pow here. Great overall groomed runs as well as off piste open and tree runs when there is fresh snow. Can get busy on the weekends in lift lines but typically not greater than 15-20 min other than peak times. Mid week tends to be 0-5 minute lift waits unless a big overnight dump. Great accommodation options but not much 'village' atmosphere. The pub is good times and will have live music. 30 minute drive from Courtenay.

Generally a great all around hill, with option for cross country skiing and all within a short drive to on ocean air bnbs. Can be quite busy but generally worth the experience, open 7 days a week and fun for all ages.
Well rounded menus and good tasting beers accompanied good service. I would return tomorrow if I could.

Only mountain (other than the hush hush mount Cain which is amazing but requires some upper body strength as Its all rope tow access) on the island, so beggars cant be choosers, but for real Its great.

I have a night pass which offers very limited access to the full scope of the mountains lifts and runs, but it helps keep the muscle memory for touring/splitting, and on the odd day that I pay for a full resort day it can be nothing short of a glorious dream.

Weekends/daytime are brutal for crowds, but I think thats the norm on most hills.

Great, smaller resort on Vancouver Island. When the sun is shining the views are incredible, however there is often a thick fog that hangs over the area making visibility challenging.

Mount Washington Alpine Resort is a great place for couples who want to get away for the weekend and enjoy some time on the slopes. The resort has a relaxed vibe and well-maintained runs that are perfect for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Its not overly crowded, so you can take your time and really enjoy the experience.

One of the coolest things about Mount Washington is the amount of touring terrain it offers. If youre into backcountry skiing or just want to explore some untouched snow, theres a ton of space to do that. The views are amazing, and the alpine setting feels like a whole different world.

Overall, its a perfect spot to combine adventure and a bit of relaxation. Whether youre hitting the slopes or exploring off the beaten path, Mount Washington is a great place to spend a weekend.
