steamboat is a great family mtn. there are some steeps in & out of bounds, long fun cruisers, and of course, our champaigne powder! i moved there in the early '90's, obviously things change but 'you just gotta poke around' and youll find ian incredible local community. its less of a ranching town these days but if you drive out of town 5min anyway you find ranchers!

The mountain is huge, the main gondola took 15min to the top(might be a slight exaggeration). the runs were open and had great views and they always had a way to transfer from one run to another. Only complaint was i wish there were more maps so i didnt have to ski-walk 100ft.

Lots of acreage, great trees, high snowfall totals. Fun mountain and town, lots to do, lots of amenities and friendly people.
Downsides are long lift lines and no extreme terrain, if you're into that sort of thing. More of a family friendly resort.

Steamboat is absolutely beautiful. There is no waiting to get on lifts. The terrain is fantastic with pockets of fresh powder even at the end of the day. Lots of accomodation and free buses to help you get around. Make sure you go downtown to experience the wonderful atmosphere. Strawberry Hot Springs are magical.

Steam Boat Springs offer a wide variety of terrain for all skiers/snowboarders, whether its a long groomed run that goes from the top to to bottom to maximum vert. To the tough chutes and Christmas tree bowl for the experts. In my opinion Stream Boat has the best terrain compared to many of the resorts Ive been to and offers lots of beautiful views of the Rockys. On top of this youll find it hard to get stuck in line with their vast amounts of lifts and gondolas that get you to the top of the mountain as quickly as possible. Theres ton of food options at the base and if you go to mid mountain you can find yourself a nice bowl of hot chili on the coldest of days. This is Steam Boat Springs and I believe it is one of the top mountains in the Rockys.

Steamboat still has some of the small town charm larger resorts have lost. Early season skiing is actually quite nice until Dec. 19th when the seasonal flights start coming in. Havent had to wait in a lift line in 3 weeks.

Steamboat has it all!! Im a skier whos down to just carve and coast down blues all day, and Steamboat has so much acreage, breadth, and variety that it allows for multiple scenic routes down from its peaks.
I can explore and glide all over the mountain, from lift to lift, run to run, bowl to bowl, so much ground covered without repeating any travelled path. When Im warmed up and ready for a challenge, the plethora of black diamonds from narrow steep trails to wider mogul filled vertical drops are a great way to test the mettle. Then the bowls for fresh powder to float across and conquer. Steamboat has it all.
After a long day at the slopes, I opt for local brews and pizza are the towns incredible main drag. Such great local fare and stellar breweries featured at every stop. Great for a relaxing nosh and recap of the day. Then, the decision for either a nightcap or an hour of wind down night skiing. Decisions decisions.
Steamboat is my skiing Mecca, gorgeous mountain views, unbeatable snow and trails, and a wonderful town to indulge in. My paradise.
