Howelsen is a fun little mountain but small. Stick to Steamboat Resort when you visit Steamboat Springs.

The best little town ski hill there ever was! Dont let the size or location fool you. Howelsen is steep and challenging with some of the best winter sports training in the country. Besides being home to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, it offers Ski Free Sundays allowing the locals and tourists alike the chance to learn to ski and enjoy their backyard at a fraction of the the cost of neighboring Steamboat Resort. Watch Alpine ski races, Nordic jumping and cross country skiing, snowboarding and freestyle training from the cozy lodge at the bottom eating a snack and drinking a warm beverage in front of the fire. Owned by the city of Steamboat, Howelsen is the oldest continuously operating ski resort in North America. The cross country trails offer uninhibited views of Steamboat Resort and the valley. The all-inferior poma lift now shares summit access with a quad chair making the trip to the beginner trails off the top and backside much less daunting to reach by the never-ever skier. If you find yourself in Steamboat with your ski or snowboard gear, Howelsen Hill is a must-stop ski resort to check off your list.
