A hidden gem in the Swiss Valais away from the bigger, more expensive resorts surrounded by 4000m Peaks known as the Imperial Crown. Best for back-country, free ride and ski touring as well as genuine Swiss traditional atmosphere and vibe.

Quieter ski resort in Switzerland, decent amount of runs for all levels. Reliable snow and good freeride zones.
Grimentz is a nice traditional village. I stayed in Hotel De Moiry, which was basic, but comfortable. The food was good. There are some very nice runs on both the Grimentz and the Zinal sides, but the main point for me was access to vast terrain of the top lifts for ski touring with a guide. The Zinal side also has a huge off piste face that can be accessed by lifts. Fresh snow gets skied out rather quickly, of course.

Small, family resort with bags of Swiss Alpine charm. We usually visit at Easter when there are virtually no queues and loads of space on the poste. Plenty of off piste and “itemerie” routes when the snow is good. Lots of self catering options near the lifts. The black run from Zinal cable car to Grimentz is a fabulous challenge, starts scary then eases off. 2 good ski schools, and the beginners area is at the top if the gondola and has good snow. Recommended for families.

Varied on piste when linking Zinal to Grimentz. Access to StLuc/Chandolin by car/bus. Skiing in Zinal is raw and more back country orientated. Gets great snow cover as wedged between valleys . Majestic views, surrounded by 4000m Peaks. Very unspoilt, lots of locals not a party resort. Rugged and authentic
