What Skiers Say About Montgenèvre

Montgenèvre is consistently described as a quiet, family-friendly resort sitting on the French-Italian border at 1,860m. Reviewers span beginner to expert level, with the majority being intermediate skiers. The most repeated themes are minimal lift queues, wide gentle pistes suitable for learning, and good snow reliability due to altitude. Nearly all reviews mention the ability to ski into Italy and access the wider Via Lattea area. The limited après-ski and nightlife is noted repeatedly, with reviewers either appreciating the relaxed atmosphere or finding entertainment options sparse. Several users return year after year, citing value for money and uncrowded slopes as key draws.

Great resort if you like the quieter ski scene (I.e no apres, clubbing etc). Perfect for a week with friends or family. Stunning scenery with the option to ski and out of Italy. Friendly locals. Well groomed pistes. Lots of cruisey blues but rarely challenging blacks unless you take the Serre Thibaud lift where the terrain tends to be a little more challenging.

Quiet runs in mid March, some groomed pistes quite sparse of snow but good lifts and piste variety. Accomodation was clean and close to the slopes, small town with nice restaurants.

It had a variety of different pistes and suitable for levels of skiers and snowboarders. Availability of lessons for 1-1 and group was brilliant and had a sectioned slope for beginners to practice. Everyone who worked there were very friendly and always aimed to help in any way.

Full resort not open until 20.12.2025, so review based on this fact. 1 side of the mountain open, but as it was quiet, there were no lift queues.

Great skiing experience late in the season. Good selection of restaurants dotted around the resort, even with a basic pass. Best food was at the terraces. Best skiing experience was on the snow part third of the resort with freeride area, snow park and groomed runs for all abilities.

This is the third year in a row we’ve been. We have come in the first week of the season before Christmas every year and it’s been brilliant every time for us. If you’re looking for nightlife and parties then you’ll be disappointed but for somewhere quiet, and friendly for skiers of all levels it’s wonderful.

Montgenevere is a quieter resort but has loads of great piste. You have the option of skiing over to Italy and your lift pass can give you access to another 5 great resorts.
If you’re after lively apres ski then this won’t be your cup of tea, but if you’re after a quieter and very family friendly resort, I highly recommend.
It’s a high resort and so I’ve always experienced great levels of snow with so much great piste to explore!

Nice good value resort that is very well suited for beginners with lots of accessable slopes all the way up the mountain. Maybe a bit small for more advanced skiiers who might get bored quite quickly, but with connections to other parts of the milkyway there are still options further away. Town is nice, but can be a bit of a walk to the slopes depending on where you stay.

Our family experience over New Year was fantastic. The ski school had lots of good support for my daughter and the slopes were very manageable for her first experience. Some of the more challenging slopes were thrilling for me and my partner and there was plenty of places to eat and drink at lunchtime and dinner. The small hotel that we stopped at, hotel Valerie was perfectly located

A truly little pearl in the french alps! Family friendly and the cutest little town. This is for the skier that likes space on the slopes, perfect for a romantic trip. Best french cousine, visit to Briancon and the big neighbour skiarea there. Picnic adventures in the snow. Off piste recommendable with local guides

A nice little resort for people who want to ski more than they apres! Some lifts were dated and slow, but some expresses. A good amount of groomed piste, relatively quiet as its not a big, popular resort.

Great family friendly resort with a good selection of well pisted slopes. Pretty uncrowded and ski-in ski-out accommodation. With both north and south facing slopes there are many options to explore and the ability to explore the neighbouring resort of Claviere is a bonus.
