La Grave is the single greatest off piste skiing in the world. There is no comparison for lift accessed skiing. On my first day at la grave we had 90cm fresh powder and got the three greatest runs of my life. La Grave isnt for everyone. But if it is for you, have fun because nothing will ever compare.

La Grave is an excellent off-piste resort with some amazing runs, it has only one piste and one set of lifts. If you want to ski off-piste you won't be disappointed.

As an avid skier always on the lookout for a pure and thrilling mountain experience, La Grave stands out as a breathtakingly unique destination. Nestled in the French Alps, this resort is not your typical ski area with groomed runs and bustling après-ski scenes. Instead, it offers vast and rugged terrain that promises an authentic adventure for those who dare. The first thing to note about La Grave is the absence of traditional piste markers or controlled runs. This means you're skiing on nature's terms, with the mountainous landscape providing natural challenges including crevasses, seracs, and variable snow conditions. It's essential to have a high level of off-piste skiing skill and to consider hiring a guide who knows the terrain intimately. La Graves main lift, the Téléphérique des Glaciers de la Meije, transports you directly from the quaint village to over 3,200 meters, offering stunning views and access to some of the most exhilarating off-piste runs in the world. The descent from the top can be tailored to different skill levels, but even the easier routes require solid expertise. What makes La Grave truly special is its unspoiled alpine beauty and the sense of solitude it offers. The lack of crowds means you often find yourself alone with the mountains, which can be both exhilarating and intimidating. The raw nature of the terrain and the sheer drop-offs adjacent to the trails can be unforgiving, so preparedness and respect for the mountain environment are crucial. Accommodations and amenities in La Grave are modest but sufficient, focusing on enhancing the connection with the natural environment rather than luxury. The local culture is welcoming, with a few good restaurants and bars that offer a cozy place to relax after a day on the slopes. In conclusion, La Grave is a paradise for expert skiers seeking a challenge beyond groomed runs and controlled environments. It's a place where you can test your limits against some of the most dramatic and untamed landscapes the Alps have to offer. Just remember, the beauty of La Grave comes with risks, and it demands respect, preparation, and a genuine love for mountain adventure.

Its La Grave. What more to be said. Visited this year after having on my bucket list for a long time. Steep and challenging off-piste terrain, high altitude great snow and super authentic vibe. Ill be back for sure.

As a skier who has seen quite some ski resorts all over the globe, I can say with confidence that La Grave is one of a kind. Just a squeeky old gondola filled with likeminded people, a village that has a vibe I've never seen before and I believe only one groomed run! Furthermore the gnarliest terrain you can imagine. Not a place for the faint hearted and I can only advice to hire a local guide for the first few days. Bring your mountaineering kit and enjoy! If I have to compare la Grave to another resort, the one that pops up is Gulmarg, Kashmir (though the terrain in La Grave can be way more demanding). My absolute favorite by far!
