Brides les Bains is down the valley from Meribel, and takes a 30 mins lift ride or drive to get to the main pistes, but the accomodation it much cheaper, and a shorter airport transfer than the resort villages. There is a free shuttle which drops at the new lift station. Parking is a bit limited.
Some nice restaurants and bars in the village but the vibes are more relaxed than further up the mountain.
Overall a nice option for a cheaper ski holiday if you don't mind getting up a bit earlier to access the snow.
