We first tried Niederau in 2018 and despite it's small size returned another 3 times, twice in one season. It's perhaps one of the most traditional ski resorts with the Ski Jewel encompassing the lovely towns of Niederau, Oberau and Auffach. Also the option to head to Alpbach. Competitive lift prices and excellent value for money mountain huts, again serving traditional Austrian fayre. Slope grooming was efficient. Niederau has everything in walking distance and all 3 resorts are served by a free regular ski bus. Family friendly and pretty tree lined runs. It's not particularly high which makes the lower slopes bumpy when the temperatures are milder. However, it makes up for it with its great lifts and gondolas and it's character and hospitality.

2nd visit to Austria. Snow was a bit icy on the lower slopes, good on the higher slopes. Restaurants were decent, got selection. Took lessons with the local ski school. 2 hours. I injured myself on this lesson hitting ice then rocks. Knee was twisted so I spent the last few days enjoying the bars!

Visited in March 2023 and Feb 2024. Snow was not great unless higher up. Town was quiet, not a great deal of night life. Skiing on ice on the lower slopes. Overall a good experience, no complaints other than global warming shifting the seasons around!!

Although my base was Niederau with limited runs which enable you to gain confidence for further resorts such as Auffach and Alpach which are served by excellent ski buses only a short distance away. Traditional Hotel and nightlife can make you stay enjoyable

Been almost two years since i have been to this resort. But from what i can remember it was not very powdery more icy but this was later on in the season so it was to be expected. The ski school staff are amazing and help along the way. There are loads of runs which can all easily be reached. Only issue is most hotels are more old fashioned but still lovely to stay in. Not a large amount of pubs or bars but the ones that are located here are really good. Has a spar shop 10 minutes away from my hotel which can be a trek after a day skiing in ski boots but its all worth while. I personally would go back but it would have to be December time to get the best of the snow!

This resort is an excellent choice for families, whether youre visiting with young children or older parents. The lower sections of the piste are ideal for beginners, featuring gentle slopes and top-notch ski school options. For more experienced skiers, the upper sections offer exciting challenges.
The majority of the piste is smooth and well-maintained, providing a seamless and enjoyable skiing experience from top to bottom. Youll find fantastic spots to pause for lunch or a coffee, and at the base, there are plenty of lively après-ski options to wrap up your day.
With its welcoming atmosphere and natural charm, this family-friendly resort is perfect for anyone seeking a more relaxed and enjoyable week on the slopes. Highly recommended!

A family friendly resort with fantastic ski schools and plenty of skiing for all abilities across the Juwel area.
Whether you are a complete beginner or an expert on the slopes there really is something for everyone - we loved the kids interactive ski trails as well as being able to push ourselves on the blacks.
There are also a number of board parks in each of the main resorts.
The extension of the lift pass to include the Juwel area in recent years has made a huge difference to the ski area. Each mountain has a good selection of restaurants for lunch stops and the ones at the top have some cracking views across the valley.
Niederau is also a great resort for school groups as the town itself is friendly, not to big but plenty of evening activities within a short distance.
Accommodation in the area cant be faulted and Ive always found the locals incredibly welcoming.

I give it 5* because of the overall experience,.So my rating is not just about the mountain and the runs but because of friendly locals, great people and service in the ski schools, hotels, bars and shops and a super friendly atmosphere in the resort.
Especially Niederau which is big enough to enjoy yourself. Yet small enough to meet people in the apres ski bars whom you were chatting with and/or skied a run or two with on the hill, after randomly striking up a conversation.
Choose the right time of the season and you could well find yourself skiing some days of perfect groomers on bluebird days with lifts so quiet you may as well be in your own private resort.
Those who are hardcore blackrun junkies will disagree with my 5 Stars vehemently because there is not a plethora of hardcore blackruns available for them.
But there are awesome, fun runs available aplenty across the 3 main lift areas on the Ski Juwel Lift Card to easily meet the needs for the majority of holiday skiers.
Enjoy folks!
