A gorgeous and quiet family friendly resort with some apres bars and restaurants. Easy to get around, plenty of runs but better for beginners / intermediates

My family have had an apartment there since 2009 and the only season I haven't been was 2020 during COVID. The resort has been growing each year with new lifts being added which has grown the size of the resort so well, accomodating skiers of all levels and also new restaurants on the mountains which serve fantastic food but at affordable prices! After university I did a season out there during 2017-2018 and had a fantastic time, worked on the bar in one of the nicest hotels in the village and took guests out on the pistes to show them the best sights of the area. Not only does the resort have a huge range of skiing on different levels of pistes but very well accustomed to boarders as well with very few flat roads and allowing them to access all areas with pure ease. It's a resort that never has a large queue for a lift, maximum of 2 minutes and one that I always suggest for people to have a look into for the next time they go!

Great fun resort with plenty of nice open runs with some great terrain nestled around the tree runs with great powder.

Good variety of runs, limited cruisy long blues that are quiet but good for an intermediate skier. Good choice of accommodation, although can be fairly expensive. Excellent apres ski, you do have to book into restaurants

you have to give the ski circuit a try, beautiful views throughout and a good challenge and leg burner

A really well sized resort with loads of options and variety in runs, very good skiers would be able to ski almost the whole resort in a single day but most would manage about half, the resort also offers stunning and ever changing views onto the hochkönig mountain and Tennengebirge mountain range.

I have been skiing Austria from a young age and have grown to love hockonig its great for beginners, and has lots of off piste sections mapped out, there are even some hidden off piste areas, fantastic family friendly place with something for everyone. 37 lifts, 34 runs (120km). Lots of lovely places to eat at!

One of my favourite places! A real undiscovered gem!
Recently a new lift system has been put in place. Some of the big resorts would die for a lift system of this quality.
We didnt queue for longer than 5mins all week. Food and drink still incredibly affordable.

One of the best places to go for a ski holiday with children. Slopes are quiet with a great quality of snow. Our family enjoyed a weekend here and we will definitely return soon.

Every type of skier can find a suitable slope. From the training (racing) slope in Hinterreit to end of the ski area in Mühlbach am Hochkönig. So much fun. In Maria Alm you will find some nice après-ski. Not a party place, but just gluhwein with families.
