What Skiers Say About Bad Gastein

Bad Gastein attracts predominantly intermediate and advanced skiers who appreciate the quiet slopes, minimal lift queues, and well-maintained red runs with long descents. The resort is part of the larger Gastein valley, comprising four ski areas connected by free buses, with Sportgastein frequently mentioned for off-piste opportunities. Reviewers consistently praise the thermal spas, efficient modern lift infrastructure (particularly the new Schlossalmbahn gondola), and good value accommodation and on-mountain dining. The town itself divides opinion: some enjoy the unique grand spa-town architecture and authentic Austrian character, while others find Bad Gastein run-down compared to Bad Hofgastein. Beginners note limited green runs and steep progression from nursery slopes, whilst advanced skiers occasionally mention wanting more challenging terrain if staying multiple days.

Been here a few times for long weekends, great snow when the weather is not too nasty. Fantastic spa in the centre of the village, love Blu fusion dining, and a couple of great Austrian gastropub type ones. Angertal is where you want to start the day, going all the way up to Schlossalm. Easy to drive / train + taxi from Salzburg / Munich. Will visit soon again for relaxed skiing with magical spa evenings.

We have enjoyed our trip to Austria and the collective slopes near our accommodation in Bad Gastein. The slopes are not busy and the lifts are amazing. Food at the restaurants at the lift areas and next to the slopes are great - we always try the Kaiserschmarrn to gauge how good the place is and none have disappointed! The powder is great and even at 15:00 the slopes are not carved up. Everyone is super friendly here and everything is easy to get to the connection slopes via the buses which is free for skiers/snowboarders. We will definitely come back here.

Nice area with great infrastructure. The ski school is excellent, our instructor Lucus was brilliant. Good learning area and magnificent views from the top of the mountain. When moving from green to blue slopes these could be narrow and off putting.

We really enjoyed this area. We had a beginner with us and it was great for offering good options of advancement for them and some epic blacks for us. Apre was so fun. So many options around the lifts and up the mountains. You can easily get to Zell at See (different resort) by ski also which is cool.

Newly installed Gondolas at 2 maybe 3 locations with new lift stations including ski lockers. Some great red runs with wide and constant gradient. Found some really nice mountain restaurants for lunch not too expensive as we had good food and drink for less than 20euros each. Good and simple bus service to get you between the different ski areas. The swimming pool heated by thermal springs is worth visiting and very relaxingPlanning to go back again this year

I have been to this resort for around 15 years. The staff on the lifts are always nice. There is never really long lift lines, even in peak season as everything is very efficient. The lifts are very quick so you spend hardly any time on them. All the lifts are modern and comfortable. There is a mix of ski runs from blue to black. I would say it is more intermediate friendly than beginner friendly.

I've had the pleasure to ski Bad Gastein/Bad Hofgastein/Angertal for about 8 years now. The slope preperation is second to none, and I ski a lot of other resorts in Austria and America to compare this against.

The length of the runs and complexity of some of them is what brings me back even year. Full afterburners off the Hohe Scharte down all the way to Bad Hofgastein has to be one of the best runs in the Alps.

Its not just a resort for the jocks in ski socks though. The value for money and family friendly Hutten's all over the mountain are what makes it different to other ski arenas. They are fantastic, with a mix of old traditional and more modern Apres Ski style huttens.

Angertal is the middle meeting point and has a brilliant kids ski school and an excellent inter connecting lift system. Throw in its an hour and a bit from Salzburg by relaxing train (thats free!! with a lift pass) and you are laughing all the way to the slopes.

Ski hard and Ski safe my friends,

Gastein is the place for all :)

Great valley in Austria, with a pretty reliable snow record. Bad Hofgastien is a very nice town with some good restaurants, and a newly upgraded gondola station. The groomed runs are great with lots of variety, and never too busy.
If you run out of runs, the snow sure Sport Gastien is a 20 minute drive away and great on a powder day.
