Kicking Horse Review Summary

Kicking Horse draws predominantly advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders seeking steep, technical terrain including chutes, bowls, and glades. Reviewers consistently mention deep powder, low crowds, and significant vertical drop (over 4,000 feet). The resort has limited lift infrastructure, primarily one gondola, which funnels most traffic and can create bottlenecks. Beginners and intermediates find limited suitable terrain, with only a few green runs available. The base area and town of Golden offer basic amenities rather than extensive après-ski or dining options. Several reviewers note the need for hiking to access the best terrain, and groomers are not always well-maintained.

Kicking horse is a very fun mountain. Didn’t have the best snow conditions but still provided beautiful views, great runs and fun. Extremely quiet compared to other resorts

Kicking Horse is my home resort and has some of the best terrain Ive skied. Huge bowls and steep chutes. Sadly RCR who owns the resort doesnt put any money into it. The terrain park has a total of 4 features, the lifts are very slow and stop many times a day, and the groomers arent properly trained and leave huge ruts and holes in the runs. Sometimes scraping all the snow off and leaving nothing but dirt on an open run.

Lineup for the gondola is pathetic, way to long of a wait to access the mountain. Lift ticket prices should be lowered.

I like kicking horse. It is a beautiful mountain resort in a cute hardworking town. Best place to be on a powder day. The workers are not the friendliest but its ok because you can go to the top and spend the whole day there. My favourite run redemption ridge to McFaddens way. Kicking horse is also wonderful for back country skiing.

Amazing accommodations, worked and stayed up there for a full winter season. Great place to shred if your into back country(ish) runs and epic powder runs. Lots for a skier to do but not much for a snowboarder.. zero terrain park which makes my rating go down but overall not a bad place to go!!

I had an amazing time skiing kicking horse. Absolutely amazing conditions and a fairly quiet mountain for its size. If you like ridge skiing and off piste this is the place to be.

Great resort for steep, challenging terrain. Lots of options for short (5 - 20 min) hikes to get in-bound, less skied runs.
