My son and I skied there two weekdays last week. The weather was perfect, the mountain had plenty of snow, and it was easy to get to. Not one of the larger ski areas, the runs were varied and lengthy. The longest we ever waited in a lift line was maybe 5 minutes, and we were often the only skiers on a run. An "old fashioned" ski area, not a resort, the location is about 15 miles from hotels and town. Food is available at the lodge and not outrageously priced. Entire facility is well maintained and modern. Very family friendly. Lift tickets dynamically priced, but very affordable. Employees were friendly and helpful, eager to help the guests make the most of the day. I'd highly recommend Monarch!

Monarch is a small family resort in south central Colorado. there are hardly any lift lines, except on some holiday and a few big powder days when other Colorado resorts don't get a lot of snow that day. They don't make snow, but usually have a good base and most years there are a lot of powder days and the new snow doesn't get skied off too fast. It may last a few days! The base of the ski area is at 10,790 feet and the highest point in bounds is 11,952 feet. The vertical Drop 1,162 feet. They have some fun hike-to terrain, most notably the Mirkwood area and the short hike to Gunbarrel. Mirkwood is all ungroomed and you can find some steep powder bowls, chutes, and trees. The lift tickets are very affordable by Colorado standards.

Monarch is a smaller resort with no lift lines, all natural snow.you can find powder in the trees even days after a storm. The apres ski atmosphere is cool with a couple of bar options.the scenery is awsome.they often get big dumps of snow.i have skiied a storm dump of 35 inches of new I recommend this resort as it is very inexpensive to ride here

I love skiing here, the only thing I wish we had was more expert terrain. The mountain is big enough to not be crowded but is is also not very close to any huge town, so that helps

Monarch is still independently owned and for the most part a hidden gem. Known to locals but not much outside of the area which keeps traffic and crowds down. You can enjoy a day with a group of friends as well as take the family (I have 4 kiddos that snowboard) and if ski/snowboarding is not your thing you can chill out in the lodge with free wifi or hit the tubes for some tubing action. That with the Town of Salida not far away and plenty of rental shops along the way you can't ask for much more. They also do not manufacture snow it's 100% natural a big plus for me!
If you get a chance to ride Monarch take it you will not regret it, they have runs for all levels including back country bowls for those wanting that off he map feel.

Great mountain especially with the small crowds. Still much more affordable than any other big mountain nearby. Just wish they had a little bit more space

Overall the feeling and overall vibe is really great. Its relatively small so the lift lines are never terrible and are only around 5 minutes at the most. Expect a lot of powder throughout the season. The weather is usually really cold during the season just because it sits in a pass. My brother has Down syndrome and he got all he needed with ski school. Overall the price is great for almost everything except groomed blacks which you will not find as well as large terrain parks. They are going to open a new side of the mountain which will hopefully make it bigger than it is. If you want local and quiet go here but if you want all the accommodations go somewhere else thats bigger and more commercial.

I grew up skiing here and love Monarch! Its Black runs are amazing and hiking to the side bowl is well worth it. While they dont have any high speed chairs, this helps slow down the pace and make skiing here enjoyable. Monarch isnt a crazy town like the Vail resorts and brings the perfect balance between access and family orientated. I would let my kids free on this mountain.
