For being so late in the season, it was very good. The locals told me that the off piste is much better earlier in the year.

Following a mediocre Jan 2023 trip to Morzine where snow quality was awful, we decided to head North to Trysil this time to all but guarantee snow.

Turned out to be a good decision because we had lots of runs available to keep us busy for the week. Not all runs were open as it was still early in the season and hadn’t been the best start to the year for weather, but the latitude meant it was much better than our previous trip to Morzine in Jan 2023 which had zero snow meaning the entire region descended onto nearby Avoriaz.

SkiStar is the local company who run the resort and have a monopoly on everything such as equipment hire and lessons. However they are really good and very reasonably priced compared to resorts in the Alps.

Unfortunately what’s not reasonably priced is the cost of food and drink in resort. Alcohol is especially expensive due to government taxes so make sure you load up on the duty free shop in the baggage collection hall at Oslo airport.

If you love tree lined runs, this is the place for you. Especially love the runs in Hogegga which has lots of interconnecting runs through the trees. Blue 78 was a firm favourite for us.

A bit too many button lifts for my liking but 6 seater chairlifts do the bulk of the lifting high up the mountain. Plus there’s a new fully enclosed gondola opening in Dec 2025 that will make things a lot easier/quicker to get from the main Turistsenteret area (where Radisson Blu hotel is) to Hoyfjellssenteret is at the other side of the mountain.

Bottom line is would we go back ? The answer is definitely, which is exactly what we’re doing in Jan 2026. The pros outweigh the cons so it was an easy decision for us.

Thankfully early season snow is already looking much better so hoping to try it all the slopes that were closed last time. Or at least the blues and gentle reds one. Anything more than that is an accident waiting to happen for our skill level !

Perfect for a weekend, I don't think you'd squeeze a week out of it, especially if you're used to the big Alpine resorts; but if you've got kids you would. One of the loveliest runs is sadly accessed by a steep and long T-bar but if you can handle it the run is lovely.
The snow is different to the alps, it's more like the US, so it's dry and lovely: the pistes are groomed to perfection and what you don't get is all the chewed up crud at the end of the day.

We loved it and will return...:: BUT it benefits from going mid Jan - Sprint rather than early in the season

Very good impression of the resort and well facilitated as a first time skier. Would have preferred clearer indications of the trails however once found they were pleasant to follow.

Quiet resort perfect for families the skiing is assured due to plenty of guaranteed snow with fresh dumps weekly. Well kept resort with 54 runs something for everyone to keep entertained. Tuenliftboasses are reasonable. This minute resort for those seeking lively resort nightlife its more a family type resort. Fully recommend the Radisson blu resort for stay

Had 7 nights in Trysil over New Year early 2025. Really enjoyed the resort and have already booked to go back 3rd week in Jan next year. Despite being a peak week, it wasnt anywhere near as busy as French Alps resorts so lift queues werent crazy. However going 3 weeks later next Jan will mean even less time queuing. Accommodation is a lot cheaper as well. For groups, consider the Prestige apartments at the Radisson Blu which can only be booked via the official resort website called SkiStar. Pistes were well kept and groomed. Lots of lovely green and blue pistes that snake their way down through the trees, as well as the wide open slopes covering blues, reds and blacks. Food and drink wasnt the cheapest but lift passes and equipment hire was certainly cheaper than the alps. Overall, its a lovely friendly varied resort with enough variety for our groups skill level which is green, blue and some of the more gentler reds.

For an experienced skier with a novice partner, this resort has it all. The Hoyfjellssenter with enough ski in ski out green runs for a week's holiday, Hogegga with plenty of black runs to scare yourself, and Turistsenter with plenty of blues and reds for variety. The ski school offers everything from beginner lessons (group and private) to off piste adventures for the more experienced. The deer burger at knettsetra is fantastic!

Booked the holiday through BA holidays and was very happy with the price, accomodations, choice of runs, speedy lifts and the ski school. Stayed at the Radison Blu which had friendly and helpful staff plus a fantastic breakfast buffet to give you plenty of fuel for a day of boarding!

The resort had very nice slopes for my level, however the lifts don't connect the slopes as well as they could. Night skiing was great but could do with a larger are open for it, maybe one of the chairlifts to accommodate users who are not as comfortable with the t-bar and button lifts.

We have been to Trysil twice - once in February half term (UK school holiday) and once in Easter in April.
The quality of the pistes is excellent and despite being a relatively small resort it has some great variety in terms of runs. In April we managed 110km of runs and 10,000m vertical in one day which was a good effort.
It is truly excellent for families at a beginner/intermediate level and while we skied a few of the runs a number of times we really enjoyed all aspects of the mountain.
The chairlifts are modern and quick but there are a lot of t bars too - however you can ski the majority of the resort/runs by sticking to chairs. We really loved the Hogegga runs in particular - these are classed as black runs but realistically are a French red. The only true black run is 45 and is a real battle if it is icy.
The early morning and evening floodlit ski ing on certain days is an absolute must.
We came to avoid the crowds in Europe in Feb half term but in reality it was packed with Danish/Swedish whose own holidays overlapped so do check whether you clash. April/Easter was much much quieter and the snow quality was still really good.
There is quite a lively bar for apres ski and some nice terraces too but it isn't Austria!
We stayed at the Radisson Blu resort and loved the ski in/ski out and the hotel itself is lovely with other activities (swimming, bowling etc) for the kids to do.

This was my first time skiing and it was amazing. Highly reccomend everyone to come here. Extremely beginner friendly and had great slopes, lifts, and lots of staff happy to help. Was super safe and so many places to eat and drink. Pretty affordable too and not too long of a drive from Oslo after renting a car there. Only went for one day but was amazing and wish I had more time. Definitely want to do skiing again and return to this place. Lots of options for accomodation too.

Our family visit Trysil year on year, and love it. The consistency of snow, quality of runs, yet within a family sized resort where you can get your bearings easily makes this a great choice. For quiet slopes, the second week in January is so much quieter than the Christmas or New Year week. Recommend a coffee and waffle at Knetsettra!

A great resort for families if you have you children. Its a good size for 1 week skiing. It looks like there are some good off piste runs, if you have the right conditions. The apres ski is quiet but suited for families.
