A small resort connected to Vars (apart from very bad weather days), which means you get a huge domain to ski on with your ski pass and can easily spend a week trying to ski the whole resort without getting bored. Snow park wasnt great but I reckon going to Vars would be a good shout. Some goof off piste if you know where to go so definitely speak to the locals. Risoul is quite a French station so the majority of skiers are local/French, with some Italian and also Dutch students at times. But it means the station remains cute and quiet and v family friendly, although there is a lively apres scene. Risoul is noticeably cheaper than other resorts so is a great option for a cheaper week away!

First time to a purpose built resort, skiing was good helped by a fresh dump of snow as we arrived for an early Easter ski week in 2024. Accommodation was basic and restaurant options were limited and really felt all the seasons workers were fed up and couldn't really be that bothered
The appres ski was also limited to a few bars mostly frequented by much younger people who seem to be trying too hard to have a good time at the end of the season. Skiing was okay but don't expect anything amazing but at least the holiday was cheap. Three stars overall .

Risoul is in the Southern Alps. Three more hours travel and you are in the Med! However, the snow record is still excellent and its pretty snow sure.
Ive been skiing and snowboarding in Risoul for many years and it is one of my most favourite resorts of all time. There is a lot of terrain to cover and lots of variety. Risoul is connected to another resort, Vars, which is really easily reached..its also a lovely little town.
Getting around Risoul is easy. The lift system is generally very efficient and queues are not really an issue (the odd rush hour hold up for 5 or 10 minutes). There are very few T bars - its mostly chairs and a Gondola on the Vars side.
Mountain restaurants are many and varied and the town is also really easily accessible during the day, where there are myriad restaurants on the front do neige. In the evening there are plenty of lively bars to keep you entertained.
Accommodation is mostly apartments but there a good range of hotels too. To save money you can stay in Guillestre at the bottom of the mountain and get the free bus back up each day (you get to spend time in a real, working mountain village this way - with its restaurants, cafes and services).
Perhaps if you are looking for Adrenalin fuelled blackruns and back country skiing then Risoul might not challenge you enough. However, the resort has several really decent parks and in Vars you will find a huge snowboard park..I mean massive. The chairlift takes you right by it so you can stare directly into the eyes of the daredevils cresting the jumps.
Risoul is a jewel of a resort with enough to keep a family occupied for a week and still feel that there is a lot more to explore and do.

A lovely inviting resort with a great ski area better suited to more experienced skiers. With a bustling resort centre with plenty of apreé options.

The ski resort is great for all levels with many blue runs but also many more difficult runs with moguls etc. there is also a great ski park and the resort links to Vars expanding the area you can ski.
There is a great variety of places to eat in the town which is only a short walk from the slopes and there are bars on and at the bottom of the slop for great apres.
There are also many off piste runs.
The slopes were always well groomed in the morning and maintained throughout the day.

Risoul offers a large ski area with plenty of piste for all ability levels, from long green pistes for first timers to near vertical mogul fields for those more experienced. There are also a number of snow parks and plenty of tree runs and off piste all over the mountain, there's something for everyone. I've found that the lifts and slopes seem to be quieter than other resorts, even in peak times. The food options within the resort are also very good with a lot of different options at a reasonable price. Finally, the branch of ESF in risoul are very good, the instructors are friendly and extremely helpful.
