Montchavin - La Plagne Reviews & Ratings

Fantastic, large, high altitude park with great snow, slopes and facilities. Loved it!

Great place if you want a quiet resort. Plenty of skiing on empty slopes that are well maintained. Montchavin has nice restaurants and a few bars but if you want full on après-ski you need to go to La plagne or Les Arc.

Great resort for families, lots of cruisey blues, lots of choice as it’s such a big area. Plenty of snow for our April trip.

Lovely quiet resort even over new year. Lift queues are small. Great options for all levels of skiing. Lovely family holiday. It was the first time we went without putting the boys in ski school and we had a great time.

Absolutely fantastic resort with a massive mountain to explore! The skiing was extremely excellent, and we had so much fun as a family from start to finish. The lifts run smoothly, but definitely keep an eye on the lift times so you can maximize your day on the slopes. Truly an unforgettable experience for anyone who loves skiing and family adventures.

Great resort split over 5-6 villages. Stayed in plagne centre. Great selection of lifts in close proximity. So many run of all differing levels. As an intermediate, loved the varying blues ranging from tree lined slips to wide steep ones. Loved it and will be back

Great time in la plagne, awesome conditions. Easy to navigate round town etc. Will definitely be back

Great skiing for the week, lots of varied runs. Good tree runs and blues for beginners. Great restaurants on the slopes. Ate well, drank well, skied well!!

Beautiful quieter area of larger La Plagne area, we were there at New Year so one of the busiest weeks and us quieter than other areas. Excellent lessons, well groomed slopes. Great for families. My only issue is the blue run back into the village has a few steep challenging sections for beginners, that said you can get the bubble lift instead.

Quiet village. Les Arcs much livelier but last gondola is 5 pm.We had catered chalet with three families. Ski in ski out and food and drink was amazing. Skiing was varied and excellent.

Montchavin - les coches is a real gem. Regardless of weather and snow conditions the runs from the top of bijoulin (top) lift down to les coches thru the trees are alway quiet and magical. Two predominantly blue runs offer access to 2 tree lined black runs and if conditions permit two red runs that are bathed in sunshine with spectacular views of Mont Blanc across the valley poking above the clouds. With easy access to La plagne and les arc via the Vanoise double decker cable car you will need to keep coming back to try to explore the many villages and 100s of miles of piste. If you love your backcountry. Montchavin - les coches offers many options. Hire a guide (instructor) to show you how easy it is to access. Just a few metres from the pistes, although youd never know. Night life is quite but fantastic eateries.

Montchavin is a lovely, small village which is perfect for couples or families. The village has everything that you need for a ski/snowboarding holiday I.e a couple of ski hire/outdoor shops, a supermarket, and a few very friendly bars/restaurants serving reasonably priced drinks and excellent food. Montchavin provides a great base to ski in the entire Paradiski resort (ie Les Arcs and La Plagne) which is huge and has plenty of snow-sure runs with for all abilities.
With the altitude of Montchavin (1250m ASL) being comparatively low to other villages in the Paradiski resort, the snow itself isnt the best Ive skied on. In mid-March 2024 there was no snow in the town, grass visible either sides of the pistes and mud patches and slush on the lowest pistes, however, the snow cannons in Montchavin still allow you to ski right back to your accommodation so this didnt effect us too much.
I absolutely would stay in Montchavin again. It is a perfect base for the Paradiski resort offering a cheaper alternative to staying higher up the mountain with a local, friendly feel!
