Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

A high altitude resort which is pretty snow sure. Avaoriaz is vehicle free so from the moment you arrive at the welcome center your holiday really begins when you are picked up by either snow cat or horse drawn sleigh and transported to your accommodation, if you've got kids this is really magical. Large ski area with the ports du solei pass giving you access to Les Gets, Morzine and you can ski to resorts over in Switzerland. Highly recommend.

Beautiful resort, car free which is a nice niche. Snow was amazing and access to Portes Du Solie is a bonus. However, acces to Morzine/ Les Gets is a little difficult seems silly to be grouped into the same lift pass. Very busy little alpine village high up the mountain so benefits from the snow and gives the proper "Ski Vibes" one would expect.

Was in Avoriaz for 6 days and was neither bored or disappointed once. Absolutely gorgeous pistes which are well maintained with a range of difficulties so its perfect for everyone. Best apres Ive ever been to in a good location to get back to every accommodation. Plenty to do and eat out at in the evenings too, from quick eats to fine dining, la cabane taking my top spot. Then to YAK after for some dancing

Access to a huge, varied ski area. Locals surprisingly friendly when you make a little effort. Lots of off piste options. Grooming on piste was ok. Some ridiculously busy slopes. A few lift bottlenecks. The town was too densely populated by people. Traffic free was a bonus. Town was too busy.

Visited Avoriaz as a beginner on a first ski trip and loved it.
The ski school is fantastic, with lots of availability and the green and blue runs are a great place to learn. More experienced skiers in the group really enjoyed the more technical runs and easy access to skiing the Swiss Wall.
The apres ski at La Folie Douce is fantastic, with a great restaurant upstairs and excellent atmosphere.
I would definitely recommend for anyone's first ski trip.

Avoriaz is a short ttansfer ftom Geneva Airport and high enough to be snow sure. The town is purpose built for skiing and car free making it possible to ski in out to most accommodation. The accommodation is all modern and well served with shops, bars and restaurants. The lift network leave the town with short queues in the morning getting you onto the mountain and pistes quickly. The pistes vary from simple greens and blues for beginners with miles of scenic runs to the famous Swiss Wall. An un pisted black run which is rated as one of the steepest and longest in yhe world. Overall a resort for any skier or boarder who enjoys the the snow

Great compact high resort that provides snow sure slopes late into the season.
Accommodation great choices and great selection of Savoie region foods on offer in most.
Runs great and the linked resorts of lets Gets and Zmorxine provide great tree lined option when the snow is good (these resorts hover around 1500 meters and lower so my view is better for early season trips)
Great Apres with great bars snd music selection from the lively Folié Douce and Yeti bars to more chilled out/sophiticated.

Been to Avoriaz, and the Port Du Soleil area a number of times.
Avoriaz is great for all levels of skiers, from beginners learning the ropes to experienced skiers who can easily access the Swiss Wall from Avoriaz.
Apres is also good if thats what youre looking for, especially the trusted Folie haha (expensive though).
Due to Avoriaz being much higher than Morzine and Le Gets (other two resorts covered with the Port Du Soleil pass), the snow remains good when the other two struggle due to being much lower.
However, if you get good snow, morzine is AMAZING!! The runs, off piste and tree runs just cant be beaten for me. In my experience even when there isnt loads of snow, the higher parts of morzine are still absolutely fine, its just the runs down to the town thatll struggle.
Havent explored Le Gets quite as much, but seems good for beginners and families.

Avoriaz is situated in the Portes de Soleil Europes biggest winter playground. A super family friendly ski resort with over 650km of runs for all levels of skiers. Youll never be stuck for good food in the town or on the slopes. In winter, much to my delight, Avoriaz is a car free zone, roads in the town become slopes making nearly every accommodation ski in ski out. Avoriaz has the best apres skiWhether its a quiet drink after a day on the slopes or dancing on the tables Avoriaz has it all!
