Avoriaz Review Summary

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

I’ve been to Avoriaz in both winter and spring for skiing and both times have been incredible. The resort is very well connected through ski lifts, as well as connecting over to the Swiss side with access to The Swiss Wall. Skiing and piste conditions are overall very fun, allowing for some easier slopes for beginners, and some trickier areas for those more advanced. On top of this, having a fabulous snowpark, as well as the stash through the trees offer some unique freestyle fun for those interested.

The ability to ski throughout the whole village is a huge plus, adding to the overall feel of the resort. I have had a great experience both times visiting and would highly recommend to others.

I’ve been to Avoriaz many times and it’s never disappointed me, always providing heaps of fun and great snowboarding. The resort’s groomed slopes are pretty amazing, suitable for a wide range of skills, and being linked to the neighbouring resorts in the Portes Du Soleil region (additional lift pass is required for the whole region), the terrain is vast and varied.

There’s plenty of bars and restaurants all over the resort, offering decent options of food and beverages, as well as supermarkets, a cinema and other attractions. Last but not least, the resort is home to aprés-ski temple, La Folie Deuce, where you can hop on a table and let loose once your day on the slopes has come to an end.

I’ve never actually booked accommodation in Avoriaz, as I’ve always stayed in the beautiful town of Morzine, which is a couple of lifts down the mountain; therefore, I can’t comment on the topic.

Hope you find the review useful and see you on the slopes!!

Nice resort with a huge ski area, as a beginner I didn’t fully maximise this. Apres was good at folie, food options felt limited for budget takeaways compared with other resorts. Ski in / ski out was really cool

I stayed there for a season, great all round resort with quieter slopes and backcountry towards Chatel. The car free nature of the resort is genuinely lovely and I go back to Avo every year

Great resort, purpose built but charming. Slopes are excellent, great snowmaking facilities too. Ski in ski out everywhere. Huge ski area. Only issue is altitude, which can mean mild weather but if you catch it when it’s cold and snow covered you will have a blast

Lovely resort, love the car-free aspect - just pedestrians & skiers in the town, mixed together - but with efficient snowplough / horse & carriage / sledges to get around with luggage. Plenty of varied areas, across different valleys, including into Switzerland. Plenty of blues & reds to keep different levels of skiers in the group happy, with some blacks including the Swiss Wall (with the chairlift get-out option for non-partakers). Only issue is that some key lifts seemed very vulnerable to closure due to winds, which seemed to pick up quickly & unpredictably.

Had a great time in Avoriaz. Plenty of different skiing options for the family with some great skiing available in Switzerland if you get the full lift pass.

Plenty of great food options on the slopes and great apres, including the infamous Folie Douce!

Loads of accommodation options to suit a range of budgets.

Will definitely be going again!

Avoriaz is an amazing ski in/ ski out resort. Its fully pedestrianised and access to the slopes is so easy. It caters for everyone with good ski schools, a huge ski area and great après.

Avoriaz is one of the most beautiful ski resorts I have ever experienced. It has miles of stunningly well groomed runs, snow parks to fit all abilities, and some of the best apres ski in the alps.
The accommodation we stayed in was great, a small apartment, but full of charm, and everywhere is a ski in/out accommodation.

The food and drink options are also great, with a nice variety to choose from.

Overall I’d highly recommend avoriaz to anyone.

Avoriaz is my favourite ski resort! I went a couple of years ago on a solo ski trip, staying in a shared chalet with other solo skiers. The resort itself has plenty of skiing area with runs for everyone. Great restaurants, shops and nightlife in the area and in Morzine as well.

Avoriaz is a great resort particularly families and also those loving après ski. The snow parks and stash are great fun and a good variety of skiing over the portes de soleil area. It is car free and has Aquariaz swimming pool that is great for kids. Dancing on the tables in la folie douce is a must and also a burger at changabang.

Excellent pistes and a huge amount to cover across so many different individual resorts in both France and Switzerland. Very good value for money re lift tickets and virtually no queues anywhere. And just 90 mins transfer from Geneva. What's not to love!!

Been visiting Avoriaz since I was 4, and there’s still reason to go back every year. Great place for all levels of skiers with lots of options for the beginner to intermediate levels. The ski-in/ski-out accommodation is ideal and there are restaurant and bar options for every budget. The altitude means that the snow is pretty good all season long and the staff in the area there do a great job keeping as much open as possible even later into the season.

I went in February school holidays and absolutely loved it, the village is really beautiful, it has brilliant sunsets and it’s amazing to walk on the snow without any vehicles. There was plenty of food places to go and visit while more expensive which is very common for a ski resort and you prepare for it, however there was small supermarkets which sold food much cheaper if needed. In terms of Slopes avoriaz had a very good snowpark as i’m a park skier myself and contained lots of blue and red runs to practice skills, many of which had moguls. My one issue with the runs is close to the resort it felt there wearnt many black runs if you went further into the ski area there was but close to avoriaz i can only remember there being 1 or 2. The week was very busy with people but lift queues wearnt too long but that’s expected as its school holidays. Overall avoriaz was a brilliant experience!
