What Skiers Say About Zell am See - Schmittenhöhe

Zell am See attracts a wide range of skiers, from beginners to advanced, with families particularly well represented. Users consistently mention the picturesque lakeside setting, well-maintained pistes, and efficient lift infrastructure. The resort is frequently described as suitable for intermediates, though some advanced skiers note limited terrain without visiting connected areas like Saalbach and Kaprun (accessible via ski bus). Reviews highlight friendly atmosphere, good ski schools, and reasonable variety of on-mountain restaurants. Negative patterns include busy slopes during peak periods, narrow bottlenecks on certain runs back to town, long queues at the main gondola during holidays, and concerns about snow quality at lower altitudes later in the season.

By February most of the snow has melted in the area, and they had spread artificial snow but it wasn't great and by the end of the day it was just slush

Been going there every season for the past 8-10years, its lovely, perfect weather and fantastic snow. The ski runs are brilliant and so are the bars and restaurants covering the mountain.

I am a ski instructor in Zell am See, and through my personal experience on the mountain, I find that there is so much variety that theres something to challenge all ability levels.

I love to freeride through trees and Zell am See has loads of tree runs that lead back to the piste.

The snow park has 3 beginner kickers 2 rails and 4 boxs. It has a great park shaping team and has perfect landings and takeoffs.

Zell am See has a special place in my life. I feel more at home in Zell than I do with my friends and family in the UK.

Its generally an all round resort especially combined with nearby Kaprun if the slopes are getting bare/ slushy. Good for both families and individuals. Ive skied there 3 times and once with a school group, great! Austria has one of the friendlier attitudes towards its paying customers than France for example. Beautiful setting around the lake whether frozen or not.

Our first run of our holiday was in this area. Quite busy and towards the end of the week the easier/lower runs became very icy. Also on our last day we went past a sign which said that run 5a was open, but after going down it there was a barrier across the path. Enjoyable but not the best area in the region in my opinion.

I went to Zell Am Ze, for a week with Crystal ski. They were very informative the bus ride was amazing, accommodation was second to none it was amazing and the food was Devine. Ski hire was a breeze and I had to change my boots a few times and they were no bother, the slopes were perfect and not too busy, had an amazing time, great skiing, customer service and overall just an amazing resort. Plus the pas let you go and visit a few resorts around some just a bus ride away like kitsenhorn which was breathtaking. I loved it
