Tauplitz is a great little local Family friendly resort, which doesn't compromise on anything famously Austrian. The slopes range from "simple" European Green/Blue slopes to some other rather more difficult "black" runs. The resorts connected have recently invested in several new gondola lifts as well as several new slopes which interconnect across the valleys to previous pistes, where the infrastructure hasn't been compromised on with snow cannons littering the hillside to ensure even on the sunniest of days, winter is still there! The slopes down towards Bad Mitterndorf are all relatively new, with wide, modern steep and medium gradient runs, great access and loads of room for beginners, experts and tons of availability for tree runs and off piste. And when I say wide I mean Tignes, France Glacier Wide! In the Tauplitzalm Valley there's loads of runs for every skill set, however the valley itself is fairly open to all the elements so on the sunny/windy days the slopes and lifts can be tempremental! Now there's also more slopes headed down towards the higher Town of Tauplitz, these runs again are not as modern but are tree lined and long. Allowing again for loads of powder fields and off piste skiing/boarding. All of the off piste availability leads to slopes and lifts so you can shred all day on and off piste and never lose out having to walk across a valley to a lift or soke access. There's a handful of traditional hotels/restaurants littered around the pistes, all serving modern and traditional European and Austrian foods, all well priced but all absolutely delicious, I could not recommend any particular place up the mountains as they're all delicious, quick, well priced and spread out across the entire resort. The lifts are a variety of gondolas, chair lifts and the odd dreaded button lift... which aren't dreaded if your the better ability of skiing, but are if your over 30 or snowboard!... or have a toddler hanging off you! The newer gondolas work really well and are a very quick access up the newer slopes, there's even rumour of these being extended further down the valley in years to come. However the older chair lifts on the tauplitz side tend to be efficient but slower due to the sheer volume of "traffic" and length they go on for. Into the 2 main towns of Bad Mitterndorf and Tauplitz, you'll find plenty of Apres Ski hotels, bars and restaurants. Tauplitz the higher resort has plenty pf large hotels with bars and great local foods and drinks (schnapps!) Theres not many individual restaurants but that's how the Austrians in local towns and villages run businesses by having multi use hotels/bars/restaurants. HOTEL KREUTZER is a great guest hotel, which serves amazing local foods, the owners were very hands on, helpful, friendly and spoke great English whilst keeping the traditional Austrian Charm. The hotel is easy access from the slopes which are meters away. Throughout the town there is a ski bus which takes you to nearby resorts, towns and villages. BAD MITTERNDORF is another local Small viallage/town that the Tauplitzalm runs down into either via ski runs or the local Ski bus! BAD MITTERNDORF has again loads of great Hotel/Restaurants and bars, there are also several other smaller shops for food and clothing and also other restaurant's (pizza, ribs, traditional, European food). Conchita Wurst the famous Austrian singer is very famous in this village, and a bonus is visiting his family restaurant. Personally Bad Mitterndorf for me and my family had the better walks, bars and restaurants, I've spent Christmas, a new Year, and several seasons visiting these resorts and each time I'm in ore of their beauty. The available AirB&Bs are all great quality in both resorts, there's a SPA hotel in Bad Mitterdorf, with great swimming and spa facilities. Transport too and from the resorts are great. There's a main train line which runs regularly, we've often got the train from nearby Salzburg, or even Munich! We've also driven from the UK which was approx 18 hours, or 3 hours from Munich, about 1.5 hours from Salzburg. There's also local Ski buses running between the resorts and nearby villages, which run all the time even in heavy snow! They're great, cheap and efficient! All in, I'd happily return over and over, ans have! My family love it, and there's not much I'd complain about. My main negative is once you've skiied it, you've probably done 90% in a week and wouldn't need to return unless you enjoy the familiararity, also some of the restaurants can be pricey. the actual night life is non existent unless you find a decent bar, which there are a few but this is more of a traditional resort than a modern clubbing resort. Whixh suits me and our family. 5* from me, but don't forget to check out the other local resorts as you could happily ski 5 or 6 really good resorts within an hour of this great resort which in my view makes this resort 100x better! Check out their webcam!

In a stunning location with gorgeous views what a beautiful country austria is. Great slopes for all levels with lots of variety. Arrive early for the best powder. Pros: Scenic beauty, varied terrain, and family-friendly amenities make Tauplitzalm a top choice for winter getaways. Cons: Limited nightlife and occasional crowds during peak seasons may detract from the experience.
