Many will have passed through Lofer en route to the better known resorts of Zell Am See and St Johann, but Lofer is well worth a stay. No British tour operators go there, so your ski buddies will be a real mix of different nationalities who have all driven or arrived by coach/plane. It is an easy bus ride to the resort from Salzburg Airport (bus stops right outside). There is a wide variety of accommodation and for self caterers 3 supermarkets. Several ski hire outlets in the village and one at the base of the gondola station. Quite a few shops for most things you will need and a decent pharmacy. The British Ski Team have been based here for many years. The slopes are accessed by a two stage gondola system. There are many types of lift pass to suit everyone. Two ski schools and there appears to be plenty to keep small ones occupied. Once at the top a good variety of runs open up and several cafes with deckchairs to take a break. There is also cross country skiing both on the valley floor and at the top. It is a very friendly place, never encountered any difficulties. It just seems the locals want you to have a good time! A well kept secret so don't go and spoil it!

We’ve skied Lofer a few times now and love going there. This time we had family from South Africa, who had never skied before and the schools were great and slopes very beginner friendly. It’s an inviting atmosphere and everyone is very friendly. We’ll continue visiting.

Lofer is virtually unknown to the British, as no tour operators go there. However, it is the base of the British Ski Team so some know the secret. We have visited independently for many years. It is 45 minutes from Salzburg Airport, there is a bus. The village is a working village, with plenty of accommodation and a ski bus to take you to the slopes if needed. 3 supermarkets and some shops/bank. Accommodation ranges from apartments, houses through to 4 star hotels. The lift system is efficient. The slopes are great, they really look after the snow up there and always freshly groomed. An assortment of lift passes according to your needs/ability. The lift office staff and the attendants are very friendly and helpful. Plenty of restaurants scattered throughout the ski area with fantastic views. Apres ski is hotel/bar based, but not chaotic nightlife. Many will have travelled through Lofer en route to Zell am See/Kaprun/Maria Alm or turn right at the roundabout and you are en route to Waidring, St Johann and Kitbuhel, but you may well not have noticed the village. Film buffs will also be able to spot scenes from Where Eagles Dare as it was filmed there. A lovely place for easy skiing and the feelgood factor!
