Overview
Baldy Mountain Resort, located in British Columbia’s South Okanagan region, is a small, underrated ski area known for its dry powder, uncrowded slopes, and a laid-back, community-focused vibe. Sitting at 5,666 ft base elevation, it is one of the highest ski resorts in Canada, leading to consistent snowfall and quality skiing conditions throughout the winter. However, Baldy is a no-frills ski area, catering primarily to families, locals, and those who prefer a quiet, authentic skiing experience over a resort-style holiday!
The Skiing at Baldy Mountain Resort
- Terrain: The resort has 35 marked runs across 600+ acres of skiable terrain, plus extensive gladed tree skiing and side-country opportunities.
- Vertical Drop: 395m (1,296 ft) – not massive but decent for a small resort.
- Snowfall: Around 900cms (30 feet) of annual snowfall, typically light and dry.
- Lifts: Only two chairlifts and 2 surface lifts, keeping things simple but limiting lift capacity.
- Crowds: Virtually nonexistent; you can ski fresh powder all day without competition.
- Best for: Intermediate skiers, beginners, and those who enjoy tree skiing.
- Downsides: Limited terrain for advanced skiers looking for big-mountain challenges; no high-speed lifts.
Is Baldy Mountain Resort Family-Friendly?
- Great for kids: Baldy markets itself as a family-friendly resort, with a dedicated beginner area, affordable lift tickets, and a ski school offering lessons for children and adults.
- Quiet & Safe: Because of its low crowd levels and small size, it’s an easy place to let kids explore without worrying about them getting lost.
- Tubing & snowshoeing: Non-skiers in the family can enjoy the resort’s tubing park and groomed snowshoe trails.
Eating Out at Baldy Mountain Resort
- On-Mountain Dining: Baldy has just one main eatery, Baldy Bar & Café, serving basic pub-style food and drinks. Think burgers, poutine, and simple comfort food.
- Après-Ski: There is a bar with drinks, but Baldy is not a party destination. Après is limited to having a casual beer in a quiet atmosphere.
- Nearby Options: The closest town, Oliver (about 40 minutes away), has a few restaurants, but nightlife and dining options are limited.
Accommodation at Baldy Mountain Resort
- On-Mountain Stays: There are some vacation rental cabins and lodges at the resort, but no large hotels or commercial accommodations.
- Nearby Towns: Most visitors stay in Oliver (40 min drive) or Osoyoos (1 hour drive), where there are hotels, motels, and Airbnb options.
Pros & Cons of Baldy Mountain Resort
Pros
- No Crowds: Lift lines are non-existent, and fresh tracks last much longer than at bigger resorts.
- Great Powder & Glades: Dry Okanagan snow and good tree skiing for those who like off-piste terrain.
- Affordable: Much cheaper than major BC resorts like Whistler, Big White, or Sun Peaks.
- Family-Friendly: Safe, quiet, and great for beginners and intermediates.
Cons
- Limited Terrain & Vertical: Not ideal for expert skiers looking for long, steep runs.
- Small Resort Infrastructure: Only two chairlifts and limited resort amenities.
- No Après-Ski Scene: If you’re looking for bars, restaurants, and nightlife, Baldy is not the place.
- Remote Location: Accommodation is sparse, and you’ll need to drive 40+ minutes to the nearest town.

Never busy and no line ups at lifts. The chairs are slow but there are no line ups. You will always find untouched powder. It has the best tree runs with tons of powder for everyone. This is the ski hill to take out the powder skis.
