Why Kicking Horse is Highly Rated for Off-Piste
Kicking Horse has earned its 4.85/5.00 rating for Best Ski Resort for Off-Piste in the world, and frankly, it's not hard to see why when you read what our users are saying. This place is a big-mountain playground where the ungroomed terrain is nothing short of legendary. Claire, an expert skier, reckons "the terrain here is like no other," whilst Drew describes it as "easily the most butt puckering resort in Canada" with "the best in bounds chutes, bowls and views." What makes Kicking Horse special is how much of this gnarly terrain sits within the resort boundary - you're getting a backcountry experience with added safety. Andrew, an advanced snowboarder, nailed it when he said it "feels like a step towards backcountry but patrolled and avalanche controlled."
The natural features here are unreal, and if you're up for a short boot-pack, you'll be rewarded with lines that'll make your mates jealous for months. Jovica points out there are "some insane lines 15-20 min hike" whilst John raves about hiking out to Terminator and up to Whitewall and Ozone for some of the gnarliest terrain around. The bowls, chutes, and tree runs offer proper adventure skiing - Rob couldn't believe "the level of extreme" after dropping into expert terrain from Stairway to Heaven, and Tyler scored "waist deep powder" in the trees for days after a dump.
