Manning Park Resort Overview

Manning Park Resort is a hidden gem tucked away in British Columbia's Cascade Mountains, about three hours east of Vancouver. This small but mighty ski area offers a refreshing alternative to the region's busier, more expensive resorts.

The resort operates at elevations between 1,356.97m and 1,788.87m, providing a respectable vertical drop that captures consistent snowfall. Manning Park features 34 runs serviced by a modest lift system of two chairlifts and two surface lifts.

What truly makes Manning Park special is its authentic, old-school ski atmosphere. Our Snomad community gives it an overall rating of 4.02/5, with particularly high marks for family friendliness (4.60/5) and value for money (4.45/5). As Mike, an expert snowboarder from Canada, puts it: "Wonderful experience, nice to go back in time where skiing is affordable and enjoyable."

"The resort is a great size for kids and learners. Not comparable to the larger resorts but the skiing was great and there were no lift lines and the people were friendly and had a wonderful Bluebird day. And the Price is Right! "

The Skiing in Manning Park Resort

Manning Park's terrain offers something for everyone across its 34 runs. The mountain shines particularly for intermediates (4.50/5) and beginners (4.33/5), making it an ideal learning ground.

The lift system is basic but effective, consisting of one modern chairlift and one older chair, plus two surface lifts. Kjer, an advanced snowboarder, notes: "New lift is fast, old lift is nostalgic." While the resort scores modestly for lift efficiency (3.50/5), wait times are typically minimal except on busy weekends.

For more advanced riders, the mountain offers some surprisingly good off-piste options, earning a solid rating for off-piste terrain (3.78/5). Jasper, an advanced skier, recommends: "Awesome powder stashes in the tree runs that last for a long time due to the extremely quiet slopes during the week."

The resort's tree skiing (3.69/5) is particularly well-regarded. "Great trees. Great vibe," says a Snomad user who's an advanced snowboarder. However, the terrain parks (2.61/5) are limited, with one reviewer describing it as "very small."

"Fun family friendly resort. There are two lifts servicing a variety of terrain options including groomers, moguls, and tree runs, even some hikes are available."

Eating Out in Manning Park Resort

The dining options at Manning Park are limited, reflected in its modest rating for eating out (2.38/5). The resort offers basic lodge food with one restaurant and one pub in the main area.

Several Snomad users note the limited options. Natalie, an advanced skier from Canada, observes: "Not much going on food wise and most skiers tailgate during lunch breaks." Another user adds: "Disappointed that their food prices were jacked up this year but their soup is still awesome and reasonable."

Many visitors bring their own provisions. As Kari, a beginner skier, advises: "Not a lot of eating out options though. So, pack food with you." The DIY approach to meals contributes to the resort's traditional, no-frills atmosphere.

The Après-Ski in Manning Park Resort

If you're after wild parties and bustling nightlife, Manning Park won't be your cup of tea, as reflected in its après-ski rating (2.63/5). This is a place where the après involves more hot chocolate by the fire than dancing on tables.

"Après-ski is non-existent and more suited for families with young children," explains Natalie, an advanced skier from Canada. The resort's one pub offers a low-key setting to unwind after a day on the slopes, but don't expect a lively scene.

For many regulars, this subdued evening atmosphere is part of Manning Park's charm. The focus remains firmly on the daytime skiing experience and reconnecting with nature rather than partying. As Rebecca, an intermediate skier, puts it: "If you want to rent a cabin, make your own food and want to truly enjoy a quiet nature-centered resort, this is the place for you."

Manning Park for Families

Manning Park truly shines when it comes to family friendliness (4.60/5), receiving one of its highest ratings in this category. The combination of affordable lift tickets, uncrowded slopes, and gentle terrain creates an ideal environment for families.

Kristian, an expert skier from Canada, shares: "Great spot to take the kids and family! Learned how to ski here and am now teaching my kids here, too." This intergenerational appeal is a common theme in reviews.

The resort offers excellent ski school quality (3.90/5), making it perfect for youngsters finding their snow legs. Beyond skiing, families can enjoy tubing, snowshoeing, skating, and other winter activities.

One Snomad community member liked the dedicated areas for younger children: "The family fun areas for littles is great! Good areas for tubing with the kids, and a lodge to warm up in afterwards."

"Great spot to take the kids and family! Learned how to ski here and am now teaching my kids here, too."

Accommodation Options in Manning Park Resort

Manning Park offers a modest selection of accommodation options, earning a middle-of-the-road rating for lodging (3.13/5). The resort area features cabins and lodge rooms, with year-round camping available for those with RVs.

Liane, a beginner skier from Canada, describes the options: "Accommodation options include cabins, lodge, and winter camping. A common building has indoor swimming pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna."

While the accommodations aren't luxurious, they offer comfortable, affordable bases for skiing. The resort's compact layout means most lodging is conveniently close to the slopes. However, some users mention that accommodation options are "limited," suggesting that booking in advance during peak periods is advisable.

Environment and Sustainability in Manning Park Resort

Manning Park Resort operates within Manning Provincial Park, requiring adherence to British Columbia's environmental regulations for protected areas. The resort's relatively small size and limited development naturally minimize its environmental footprint compared to larger ski operations.

The resort's emphasis on basic, traditional skiing rather than extensive snowmaking or expansion projects helps preserve the natural mountain environment. Its location within a provincial park means wildlife protection is prioritized, with several users mentioning wildlife sightings as highlights of their visit.

Public transport options to the resort are limited, though, with most visitors arriving by private vehicle. The resort has not publicly announced major sustainability initiatives or certification programs, suggesting this could be an area for future development.

I love this mountain. It is smaller but easy to get to and has top quality people /ski personnel in the ski school and on the ski patrol crew. Our family has been going to Manning Patk since 1985. My husband was an instructor there and we rented a family cabin every winter and our family would go for a week usually over Christmas Break. It has a skating rink and a heated pool /cabins and resort hotel. It has winter camping and hiking and really challenging cross country tracks. New Year’s Eve is really special… fireworks on the mountains nearby. Truly magical and fun for all. IMHO this is truly the very best ski mountain around in BC… yes we have Whistler and Big White and Silver Star and Revelstoke and Sun Peaks and Apex but truly Manning Park has it all… hard and scary runs for the black diamond skiers etc and for the very brave there is stuff off in the trees and ravines.. and there is safe and well maintained runs for the learner and young children… I think it is the Very Very BEST… outstanding family experience.

Manning Park Resort FAQs: Skiers' Most Asked Questions

Is Manning Park Resort snow-sure?

Manning Park can't be considered truly snow-sure. While it generally receives good snowfall due to its Cascade Mountains location, Snomad users report variable conditions. One advanced snowboarder mentioned "lack of snow but a nice day out" and "spring-like conditions in January with bare spots on non-groomed runs." Another user praised the "amazing snow," but the inconsistency suggests it's not reliably snow-sure throughout the season.

What mountain range is Manning Park Resort part of?

Manning Park Resort Ski Resort is located in the Cascade Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. The limited terrain (just two chairlifts) means expert-level challenges are somewhat restricted despite some good off-piste potential.

Is Manning Park Resort good for non-skiers?

Manning Park Resort offers decent options for non-skiers despite its focus on skiing. Sasha, a non-skiing visitor, highlights "great family fun areas for littles" and good tubing zones with a lodge to warm up afterwards.
