Drive 120 miles north of Boise, and you'll run into Brundage Mountain, which is well worth a visit. The snow is great ("Best snow in Idaho" is their motto), the two lifts are high-speed detachables, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The vibe is old school and no-nonsense, which is what I like. I'll take a cheeseburger at the Brundage cafeteria any day over steak tartare or chicken almond-ding-a-ling at the restaurants of Tamarack, located a few miles south, geographically, but a world apart otherwise.
My complaint with Brundage is that all the blue runs are kind of similar--you ski one or two of them, you've skied them all. But they're great runs all the same. The resort was not crowded on my visit, mid-week in January, which I'll say is the time to try Brundage and Tamarack, too.
All après-ski and other niceties are located in the nearby town of McCall, which is as fun and isolated a ski town as you could want.

If you catch the snow fresh its great but it seems the grooming department doesnt so their share s a lot of the resort becomes icy moguls. Poor staffing as well

Brundage mountain resort is a resort in McCall Idaho with lots of fun non groomed areas and cliffy terrain. It has very limited park but good chairs and lodge service. I recommend Hidden valley for advanced cliffy terrain and powder skiing. It also has accessible out of bounds side country available.
