I love the Dolomites - the landscape, fabulous food served in the mountain restaurants with table service and, of course, the skiing! While snowfall in this eastern area of the Alps can be less than reliable the resorts have extensive snowmaking facilities. For a great day (and depending where you are staying) get out first thing, and take the chairlift up to Vallon (2550m) , ski down the black run and then ski the 42km Sellaronda circuit -in both directions. You can finish the day in the tiny Vino Technica bar and enjoy a gentle (but cautious!) ski back to the resort in the fading light. Even better if there is a full moon.
