Morillon is a part of Grand Masiff ski area in the beautiful part of French Alps 40 min from Geneva airport. My son (snowboarder) and I (skier) have taken the full opportunity to explore all resorts in Grand Masiff which consist of Samöens, Morillon, Les Carroz, Flaine and Sixt resorts. For full 7 days over Christmas and New Year 2024/25 we have explored all resorts in Grand Massif using Morillon 700 gondola as a base. We have stayed in Verchaix, just across the beautiful Giffre river from Morillon gondola and 10 min walk from accommodation to the gondola station. All above mentioned resorts are interconnected with great quality speedy chairlifts which makes exploration of them a breeze and makes your day fully enjoyable as all the runs you take to connection chairlifts have different terrain levels and open the amazing views around every corner you take! Not the most exiting but most memorable run is Cascades from Flaine to Sixt, its a 14km long blue run which starts at the top of Flaine accessible by Les Grandes Platieres gondola from Flaine bowl. As you exit the gondola, right in front of you the is the Mont Blanc range with breathtaking views with Aiguille Du MIDI clearly defining the position of Mont Blanc to the right of it. Your descent in to Sixt start at this point and takes you through the ridge of Flaine dropping down to the Cascades run with plenty of fresh pow either side on the first highest section of the run, then it goes in to the valley and becomes more like a true blue run with some sections which could be considered as a red run about midway. Cascades run is almost always empty due to misconception about how to get back to the main part of Grand Massif from Sixt. No need to worry about that! Grand Masiff has a free ski bus service which takes you from the bottom of Cascades to the Samoëns Village Grand Masiff Express gondola in leasurly 15 min drive, so from the time you arrive to Sixt to the time you are back at Samöens 1600 is a 30-40 min and wherever in any of the resorts you stay, you can access all the runs with Grand Masiff ski pass, there is an option of purchasing just 4villages ski pass (Morillon, Samöens, Les Carroz and Sixt) which excludes the Flaine resort chairlifts and gondolas but for 3 price difference compared to Grand Masiff pass its hardly a saving and you get soo much enjoyment in higher slopes of Flaine! All in all, the Grand Masiff is our choice for a second year running which offers soo many activities for non skiers as well as slopes crazy people! Safe skiing everyone!
