First time skiing Les Arcs, and based in Arc 1950. This is a beautiful wee village, car free, with nothing but ski-in/ski-out accommodation, and enough restaurants to keep you fed for a week. Not much of a loud apres scene - if that's your think then Arc 1800 is probably a better choice. From a skiing perspective, my impression of Les Arcs is that they leave too many runs ungroomed overnight, leading to lots of mogul covered reds and blacks. In fact, the only black we found that wasn't covered in moguls was sheet ice instead. This is in contrast to the 3 Valleys which grooms most of its blacks every second night, so if you like steep but smooth, you get catered for. On the plus side, Les Arcs operates an innovative express queue for several lifts which you get access to if you have a full Paradiski (Les Arcs + La Plagne) lift pass. We were there for the third week of January and found crowds not too bad - there were some deserted runs where you could open up the throttle and have a bit of fun, but also some real bottlenecks where you were struggling to make your way through the crowds. February will presumably be even worse in this respect. Overall, not a bad resort, with some good runs and fantastic views across to Mont Blanc, but I probably won't be rushing back to ski here again.
