Situated above Sion Veysonnaz is a small picturesque village that offers panoramic views of the Valais. It has a commanding position across from the larger Nendaz and it looks across to the resorts across the vally of Anzerre and Crans Montana.
The Skiing- The Veysonnaz Gondola takes you up above Thyon 2000 and into the 4 vallees ski area. From here you can venture further east in the direction of Siviez and ultimately Verbier, here you will find the famous Mont Fort with iconic off piste routes running off the back. Staying within the Veysonnaz ski area you'll find challenging runs from Etherolla. There is one black that steeply runs down to Les Masses that will test most. Also a must is the Piste de l'ours, this is a red piste that undulates through the forest and offers steep pitches that then descend into wide open pistes. In short Veysonnaz offers a quieter more Swiss ski experience to its glitzier neighbours.
The Village - There's a lovely high street with a number of bars, restaurants and shops. This is not a busy resort but it does get its far share of locals after a snow fall or at the weekends. This only adds to the atmosphere. The Hotel Magrappe offers a great terrace looking up at the piste as it descends. Great spot for an end of day drink. There are also sone great winter walks to be done. Just follow one of the local Bisses that navigate the mountains.
Overall - Great resort for those wanting world class skiing and a slightly cheaper base from which to experience and explore the 4 Vallees. Good for famalies, the ski schools here are great and there is a great kids area at Thyon. There is limited Apres but enough as long as your not looking for nightclubs into the early hours.
