What Skiers Say About Arapahoe Basin Ski Area

Arapahoe Basin attracts predominantly advanced and expert skiers who value challenging terrain and a no-frills, authentic ski culture. Reviewers consistently highlight steep runs, excellent off-piste and bowl skiing, minimal lift queues, and a relaxed local vibe distinct from corporate resorts. The high altitude ensures a long season and often better snow preservation. However, multiple users note limited beginner terrain, with greens described as equivalent to blues elsewhere. Early season conditions are frequently criticised as icy with minimal terrain open. Concerns about future changes following the Alterra acquisition appear in several reviews, though most praise the current independent spirit and free parking.

Arapahoe basin isnt the biggest mountain, but still has a lot to offer. From some great hike to terrain on the east wall, to easily accessible chutes off the beavers lift on the north side, you can find challenging and technical skiing all over the mountain. If you are looking for something less advanced, there are some really fun groomers from top to bottom. With a majority of the mountain being over the tree line, you get a feel of being in the alps. The apré-ski scene is unmatched, from barbecues in the parking lot, to fine dining at the base or at the peak. Overall, Arapahoe basin is a great mountain with so much to offer whether youre a beginner or an expert.

Small resort for the steep, and extreme loving rider and uncrowded feel. Visited a basin late season in spring after riding my home resorts in the cottonwoods in Utah, after a hot week of skiing mash pots by 1 pm in Utah we decided to check out a basin . Our experience was great and expectations were exceeded!!! With the resort mostly tucked away in north facing aspects and the base elevation sitting at 10000 ft + we were finding good dry cold hard packed powder all day . Our favorite part of the mountain was the pallavinci chair for experts, this chair access steep continuous fall line skiing in chutes, gullies , and trees that harbor the best snow. If your up for the more extreme aspects of a basin they offer the THE EAST WALL and THE STEEP GULLIES. The East wall offers hike to access to ski some of the gnarlier chutes and runs off this behemoth wall. The steep gullies are lift accessed but require a 30 min hike back to pallavinci lift. We had the honor to have a ski patroller ski the gullies with us and show us around!!!( pop in to the ski patrol hut top of palli chair and ask for steep gullies conditions, and you might get lucky!!)these 40 degree plus chutes are amazing and visually stunning but challenging!!!! Overall Id say a basin is a skier/riders mountain with a lot of extreme terrain, great high alpine snow and pretty good apres scene( reserve spots on the beach so you and the fam can soak up the sun while grillin n chillin slope side!!!)no lodging at a basin which seems like it keeps the crowds down with the nearest accommodations in keystone, frisco or Dillon which are with in 30 to 45 min away . Great mountain !!! Thanks A basin!!!

They have learned smaller is better, I took an 11 year old for the first time this year, he was amazed with how much fun such a small mountain could be, nickname the legend is fitting and so very true

One of the last bastions of ski culture in Colorado. Steep, technical, terrain in the trees. No fake Swiss village bs. Good vibes.

Free parking.

A-Bay is great for a more chill day or uou can hit the back of the mountain for some bowl skiing. Smaller mountain but also means less busy. They did just get bought buy alterra, hoping they keep the same family-owned energy!

The only place that has a soul in proximity to Denver. Cut your teeth here and you're good to go anywhere. Best resort employees in all of Colorado. Every other resort in Summit County is Disneyland compared to A Basin. It's the punk rock of resorts.

Very little beginner terrain. Not resort style so plan transportation to and from for the day. Slopes can get a bit icy or windy because of the elevation. Start easier than you think because green runs would be blue at any other resort. Blue runs would be black, and so on. Not usually crowded. Parking is free if you have 3 or more people in your car.

Fantastic, yet smaller, resort for intermediate, advanced, and expert skiers. Not much easier terrain for beginners. Since it isnt on any of the multi-mountain passes(except for 5 days on IKON) means there are generally shorter lines and less folks on the slopes. A few really fun groomers, but it truly excels in the side country and ungroomed terrain.

What a great place to be. I absolutely love it. Its a very challenging mountain, which generally drives away all the inexperienced skiers. Thats a huge plus in my opinion. It stays pretty exposed throughout the season until we get a big snow. Im sad that they caved to the pressure of Alterra. Its not going to be the same. Bummer.

A-Basin is not for the faint of heart, there are a small handfull of greens and blues, there is no resort, no onsight hotels etc. This means that those who travel to A-Basin are seasoned skiers who are on a mission to ski hard and to ski the most epic runs in Colorado! Yet the skiers are never uptight and A-Basin has a culture of its own, swing by or rent a spot on the 'Beach' where you will find costumed skiers, bbqs, kegs and all to gather a party. Truly is the best place to ski, with the newest lifts and the gnarliest terrain here. Enjoy!

Had an awesome time at A Basin. Doesnt get as crowded as the other Colorado resorts, so we barely waited in line even on a beautiful bluebird Saturday. It also had barely snowed all week and the snow quality was still great in Montezuma Bowl. The Beach is fun, and so easy to stop for just a few minutes for a bite or a drink in the middle of the day because of its location.

The Basin is an awesome place, every ski area in Colorado has great views, but the Basin is the view. It is unequaled for expert and extreme terrain. The history is amazing. It is all about the skiing, not the corporation.

A basin is legendary. Not too much beginner terrain but many amazing options for advanced/expert terrain. Amazing woods out in the beavers. While it can get crowded on weekends a basin is normally less crowded than other resorts due to there being no accommodation options here. It also has several more affordable options for skiing.

Abasin is super cool because they dont sell a lot of passes so the crowds are pretty much always small. I rarely wait in lines when I ski there. The skiing is amazing! There is a ton of variety all over the mountain.

A basin is definitely less resorty than most other resorts in the area. It is an amazing value for the price. If you are a diehard skier/snowboarder then youll love a basin. However if you want more accommodations, look elsewhere.
